Christmas time was only three days away and she still hadn't finished her shopping! June sighed, stuffing her hands further down into her coat pockets. This was so unlike her. Usually by now she'd have been done with all her shopping for a good month. But, instead, she'd spent all her free time working various after school jobs to earn money for the upcoming ski trip. And now... well, here she was in the mall in an attempt to finish her shopping before Christmas.
"Move out of the way!" And of course June wasn't alone in her last minute shopping. There were tons of people out... all probably at the mall for the 'Big Bargain Christmas Sales!' day the mall was having. June sighed once more, moving out of the way of the woman who was just yelling at her. "Gosh, I hate the mall," She muttered, with a slight eye roll. She turned, attempting to push her way out of the store she was in. She made it out finally and gave a small smile of relief.
Brushing her coat off, June soon turned her attention back to her feet. She started to walk down the rows of store, not quite sure where she was going and then ran into somebody. Losing her balance, June fell. "Oh, I'm sorry!" She murmured, looking up to meet the gaze of whoever it was that she had bumped into this time.

“What the h---“Erik started saying when someone bumped into him. He hated people being crowded around him. When he saw it was just some innocent kid he smiled. Ok she was not really a kid but same idea. She was a little younger than him but not by much. The girl looked really familiar. ‘I think she goes to the same school as me.’ He thought to himself. “Hey it’s no big deal.” He said still smiling. The girl was really pretty. And that means a lot coming from him. “I understand it is crazy in here.” He said still smiling looking around the mall.
People were crowded in every square foot. There was really no room to walk unless you were in one of those stores where a bunch of gay people shopped. “I’m Erik by the way.” He said still smiling and extending his arm so they could shake hands. He never smiled this much it was very unusual. He had not been this smiley since the accident a few years back. As soon as that thought went back into his mind his large smile died a little. He was no longer showing his stunning teeth.

June stumbled, but managed to catch her balance. She cursed under her breath, and then became quite flushed as she realized that it was someone about her age that she bumped into. A boy. A very cute boy. Her rather pale face became rather tinted and June only nodded, struggling to find her words. She gave a slightly embarrassed grin as he smiled and then finally willed herself to speak. "I- yeah, it's... very crazy. One of the many reasons that I hate holiday sales," June admitted sheepishly. She knew that most girls her age liked to shop for sales... but, she wasn't one of them. She didn't mind shopping... but, this was ridiculous. Wasn't there a maximum capacity for some of these stores?
June couldn't keep from smiling; his smile was adorable... and very contagious. She nodded as he introduced himself and then extended one of her gloved hands to shake his own. "I'm... I'm June." She replied meekly. "It's... a pleasure to meet you." After shaking his hand, she let her own hand fall back to her side. "Gosh, June, get it together!' Figuring she sounded like a total idiot, June flushed once more. It was within a few seconds later that she noticed him stop smiling. Her own smile faded slightly and she bit her lip. Did she sound that bad? She considered asking him, but they'd only been talking a few seconds... she decided not to push her luck just yet.

“That makes two of us.” He said to her comment about hating the holiday sales. When he said it he added a little bit of a laugh to the end of it. Erik had not meet many people from his new school because he was after all a loner. This girl, June, was just about the first person to talk to him since he came to this new town.
“As with you.” He said to her. He always talked around girls properly. That is the only time he respects anyone. When he saw her smile fade shortly after his he could not help but feel it was his fault. So to fix it he brightened up his smile some more. This girl was seriously cute. She had the most amazing brown eyes he had ever seen in his life.
“Hey I was just heading over to the food court would you mind if I buy you lunch or a drink or something?” He said pointing to the direction of the food court. He was seriously hoping this girl did not have a girlfriend. It would not surprise him if she did but he wanted to at least have a chance with this girl.

June giggled, hearing him laugh. She didn't really recognize him... but, there again, it was the holiday season. There were a lot of people in town that didn't actually live there. And, there was also the chance that he did live in the area and she just hadn't met him. Eastside High was fairly big, and she wasn't the most vocal person when it came to meeting new people. It was always nice to meet new people regardless, however, and Erik seemed nice enough.
After his smile faded, June found herself dropping his gaze for a few seconds and looking to the floor. She usually was good with conversation; he, however, had seemed to taken away her ability to speak properly. It had been forever since she had this problem. June didn't mind, though, it was a good feeling. She lifted her gaze to meet his once more and then noticed that he was smiling again. June chuckled and then couldn't help but to grin. His smile just seemed to be very contagious. She loved it.
"I-" June blushed, an even larger smile coming on to her face as Erik spoke once more. She slid her cell out of her pocket and eyed the time before glancing back to him. She had plenty of time... and shopping seemed to make her hungry. Plus, he was a very cute boy. June considered this and then nodded. "I'd like that," Finding her voice for the first time in a while, June continued, "I was just about to go get some lunch myself." She beamed once more and then slid her phone away, glancing in the direction of the food court. Okay, so she wasn't insanely hungry... but, she wasn't about to argue. Erik was adorable and June was kind of wanting to get to know him a little better. It had been ages since she'd been out dating... what could a little fun hurt?

When he heard her give a little laugh he could not help but beam his smile more. He forgot what it was like to smile. It had been so long since he had. He did smile but not like this. Nowhere like this. June had a great laugh. It made Erik feel all warm inside. Something he had not experienced in a very long time.
“Great!” He exclaimed. He held out his hand as to direct her first. He also took a small step to the side. As his mother always said ‘ladies first’. As he held his hand out he started thinking about why he acted to tough all the time anyhow? It’s not like he really could have prevented it from happening.

June continued to grin, giving a small nod as if to say 'thanks' as he directed her toward the food court. Erik seemed very polite. June suddenly felt like she was in a lot better mood. As much as she hated being at the mall around the holidays, she supposed that Erik had just made it all better. She shifted the weight of her bag on her shoulder and then started to walk.
She walked with him to the food court and then stopped once they got inside. She glanced around the area, looking for a table that would work. Most of the tables were already taken... but, she spotted one toward the middle of the room that had just two chairs and was empty. "Follow me," June instructed softly, leading the direction to the table.
Once there, she paused. "Will this work? Most of the tables seem... crowded," June shrugged, turning her attention to Erik once more. She eyed the table over briefly and realized that the floor was kind of messy... but, it would work. As long as Erik liked it, anyhow.

Erik followed June to the food court and continued over to the table she had spotted. When she asked if it would work he just kept his eyes on her. “It’s perfect.” He said once again pulling out his 100wtz smile. He moved to the side of the table she was sanding near and pulled out her chair for her. Still smiling.
“What would you like?” He asked once she sat down. “It’s on me.” He reassured her with a smile. He placed his bags on his side of the table then looked back at June so he could get her order. He could not help but once again notice her beautiful chocolate brown eyes they were utterly amazing.

He was such a gentleman. June grinned at him, murmuring a soft 'thanks' as he pulled her chair out for her. She slid down into her chair and set her messenger bag on her lap. Her sketch book peaked out the corner and June casually covered it with her hand. She knew she'd be tempted to start sketching if she were to study the book too carefully. And that might make Erik think she was rude... and she wasn't sure what he thought of art. Plus, lately June had been slightly embarassed about her drawings. It didn't make sense... but, oh well.
At his question, she looked up and smiled lightly. "Are you sure?" June questioned him. She didn't want him to have to pay for it, but she supposed it was okay if he wanted to. She paused for a few seconds, considering what she would like to have, and then finally gave a small shrug. "A lemonade and a pretzel?" She smiled, giving a nod as if to confirm this. She was insanely hungry, but she figured she'd eat to be polite. Plus, she wanted to get to know Eric... and it would be kind of odd for her to just watch him eat. "And, thanks," June caught his gaze for a second and her smile grew slightly. He actually had very nice eyes, as well as that smile. She had to force herself to look away from him, simply holding the smile on her face as she turned her attention to the hand covering her sketchbook.

“Trust me I am sure. I don’t mind.” He reassured her. “Great.” He said. “One lemonade and a pretzel coming up.” He said. He noticed that her hand suddenly went down to hide something in her bag. Erik did not want to be pushy so he gave her one last look and a smile and went up to the counter to order their food.
“Hey.” He said to the cashier. “Can I have two lemonades one pretzel and…” He said as he pondered on what he was going to get. “And a small order of curly fries.” He told him.
The cashier got their food in a quick manner. There was still a huge line of people behind Erik none of them liking him because he cut most of them in line.
Once Erik had the food and drinks he made his was back to the table. She was still sitting there. Krik half expected her to run away once he had his back turn. But there she was sitting at the table she picked out.
He returned back to the table. "Here you go." He said placing a lemnade and a pretzel in front of her. Than he turnded back and headed back to his side of the table and started eating, like a gentalmen, his fries. Every bit or so he would look up to smile and see that she was still there.

June nodded, giving a small smile in reply as he said he didn't mind. She watched him go, and then glanced down at her sketch book. Sliding it out of her bag, June fumbled with it for just a few seconds. She was tempted to sketch the large Christmas Tree that the mall had set up toward the middle of the food court, but she with held from doing so. She didn't want Erik to think that she was bored... or rude for that matter.
It was then that Erik returned and placed her food in front of her. June quickly looked up from her sketch book, giving him a warm smile. "Thanks," She watched as he slid into the seat across from her and then she reached for her lemonade. Taking a sip, her eyes drifted to the pretzel. It was still warm.
June left the comfortable silence between them for a few seconds as she broke a piece off of her pretzel and ate it. She shifted in her seat and casually let one of her hands fall back over her sketch book. After a few seconds, June decided to break the silence. She gave another grin in reply to one of Erik's and then pondered over her next words. "So, do you live around here? I mean... I don't think we'd met before."

They ate quietly for a few moments. It was not the uncomfortable silence that is should have been. It was nice. Erik sat there eating his fries occasionally looking up and smiling at her. ‘Man is she beautiful’ He said to himself. ‘What’s a nice pretty girl doin hanging out with me?’ He questioned himself. ‘She was probably only being nice.’ He thought to himself.
“Ya, I do actually.” He said. “Well actually my aunt and cousin live here and so my mom, my sister, and I all moved in with them just a month ago.” He told her trying to sound like it was no big deal. “So it’s really no surprise you have not seen me I mean I just enrolled as East High last week and I skipped two days anyhow.” He said with a little laugh at the end. Those two days were the only days that he had ever skipped class and school altogether. He felt empowered by it. “Besides not many people talk to me.” He said with a laugh. “Heak even the teachers are even a little scared to talk to me let alone the other students.” He said shaking his head and rolling his eyes.

June broke off another piece of her pretzel, popping it into her mouth slowly as she studied Erik. He seemed like a nice boy... a very cute nice boy at that. She was rather grateful for the crowd of people in the stores for once. Without them, she probably wouldn't have run into him. Maybe the holiday bargain shopping wasn't so bad after all...
June nodded along with what Erik was saying. She smiled lightly as he said he had already skipped two days. "What grade are you in? I'm a sophomore... I've been in the Eastside district since the third grade... but, I still don't know everyone," She admitted with a slightly sheepish smile. She couldn't help but to raise an eyebrow as he continued on. She was surprised to hear that not many people would talk to him; he was nice enough.
"Oh?" June paused, slightly frowning as she studied him. "Why's that? I mean, you seem nice to me..." She trailed off, stopping herself before she went on. Instead, she gave a curious grin, and quickly added. "I mean, you're definitely not the completely scary type. Not to me."

“I am a junior.” He said. “And that’s cool I loved my sophomore year. You know getting your driver’s license and all.” He said with a smirk. It took him 5 times to actually get the license. He was always running into fences and it took him long enough to just understand the ten and two or whatever it is for where he places his hands. “My sister is a sophomore.” He told her. The one sister of his that he had left.
“Ya well you know you can't always judge a book by it's over. For example I would never think a girl like you would be interested in art. You judging by your looks seem like one of those girls look at the value of things. But when I saw you had a sketch book i saw that you looked at the beauty of things.” He said with a little laugh. It amused him how much people stayed away from him. It kind of annoyed him but at the same time he would laugh about it. “Well it’s nice to know not everyone is all caught up in to judging people but the cars and such they drive.” He said shaking my head. “I think the more than likely the main reason is because at school the other day after school let out I some dude ‘messing around’ with my little sister and I could tell that she was not comfortable with him doing that so I got on my motorcycle and rode over to where they were walking.” He said shaking his head. “For starters in this neighborhood if you have a motorcycle everyone just assumes you are bad news."He said with a tint of a laugh at the end of it. “Any how so when I approached them the kid started acting like he was his property or something obviously unaware she was my sister and well I did not like that.” He said dropping his face to so he could look down at his food. “I ended up giving the kid a black eye and I might have sprained his ankle I don’t know he won’t return my calls.” He said with a laugh. “I wonder why?” He said with a smile which instantly dropped. Then he looked back up at the girl. “I understand if you don’t want to be around me.” He told her looking into her eyes. “I don’t want to ruin your rep or anything like that. I just though you seemed like a sweet and pretty girl that seemed to not even know that I am probably the kid you heard about at school.”

June nodded, giving a small grin as he stated that he was a junior. She was kind of surprised to find that he was older than her, but she didn't mind. "I haven't gotten my licences yet," She admitted with a sheepish smile, "I walk to ride my bike every where... or, carpool." She shrugged. She nodded as he said that his sister was a sophomore. "Really? I'll have to look for her."
As Erik mentioned her sketch book, June's gaze fell down to the dark sketch book in her lap. She'd just gotten it a few weeks ago and it was already pretty full. Winter was just inspirational. June couldn't help but to flush slightly, however. "Well, I don't know about that... but, I do love art." June giggled, fiddling with the corner of the book. She was surprised he had seen the book; it wasn't something that she brought up right away.
June studied her sketch book's cover for a few seconds as she listened to Erik talk. She giggled slightly as he stated that most people in the neighbourhood feared people with motorcycles. She found that true; it brought more respect to that person, June figured. Not too many people could say that they drove a motorcycle around the area. But, as he continued on with his story, June hesitated a bit. She definitely respected him for looking out for his sister, but at the same time she was slightly taken aback. It just didn't seem much like Erik to do that. There again, she had only known him for a short bit of time. Less than an hour, even. And, as Erik had just said himself you didn't want to judge a book by its cover.
As Erik stopped telling his story and looked up at her, June flushed, momentarily looking away. It took her a second to find her voice, but once she did, she looked back up and him and gave a meek smile. "I don't exactly have much of a rep to ruin," She admitted with a shrug, "I'm just the goofy art girl... with an interesting sense of style at school," She shrugged, giving a sheepish smile. She had heard about a fight in the school parking lot the other day, but she decided to not bring that up. Instead, she poked at her pretzel and shifted slightly. "You're cool by me. I mean, you seem like a nice guy... and you haven't done anything to me personally. Plus, I totally respect you looking out for your sister like that. It's sweet." June looked up, meeting his gaze and grinning.
