no surpriseIt's no surprise I won't be here tomorrow I can't believe that I stayed till today Yeah you and I will be a tough act to follow But I know in time we'll find this was no surprise
luci stared at the teacher discreetly. she had to be joking detention on the third day for just doodling on her paper. "god the people here are crazy." she thought as the teacher grabbed her paper and glared at her. that is when luci realized that the teacher had something against her but what exactly? that was the question that was burning in luci's mind until the bell rang meaning it was time to go to detention. the fifteen year old grabbed her things and pulled them over her shoulder as she headed out of the room. where exactly was detention? luci had no idea so she was just going to wonder around until she found it making the excuse that she was lost. which was partly true.
she walked when suddenly her bag split right open. luci stared in shock for thirty seconds when she realized she had to pick it all up. luci picked up the books and the pencils when she saw the detention hall door about 5 feet away. she had never been happier to see it. she picked up everything ran into the detention hall and said "i am sorry that i am late my bag exploded." the teacher frowned and put his large dirty finger to his brown lips. luci knew what the meant and she quickly hurried to sit down.
when she looked around she noticed that there was only three other people in the room excluding the teacher, and luci had no idea who these people were. she frowned and started working on getting her bag fixed or at least fit everything into one big pile. she noticed that she left one thing outside, her cellphone. luci looked around worriedly. she left her phone outside of detention and she wasn't allowed to leave detention.
she hoped no one would take it. knowing most of the kids here, they wouldn't because they all had their phones and luci didn't have any interesting text messages so why would they want to look at it anyway. she wanted to scream more than anything. she rested her head on the table and wrapped her arms around drowning out the whole world.

Max was late to detention. Ugh. But being late was why he had detention in the first place; they can't possibly expect him to come to detention on time, right? He sighed mentally, staring at the floor as he walked. White tile, white tile, red tile, white tile, white tile, red tile, white tile, cellphone on a white tile... wait, cellphone? He stopped, reached down, and picked it up. It wasn't far from the detention room, so he assumed the owner had detention, just like he did.
He stepped into the room, not bothering to make an excuse. It wasn't his first time having detention; he got detention a couple times last year too, also for being late. By now, he knew not to say anything during detention, otherwise the teacher would just tell him to be quiet.
There were four other people in the detention room, and he recognized none of them. So, he just silently held up the cellphone, looking between the peoples' faces, hoping someone would recognize it as their own.

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Ruki sat in the detention room, slumped back in his chair with his arms crossed. He was supposed to be doing his homework, which was what he’d gotten detention for in the first place. So he’d forgotten to do his homework again, and it was just the third day of school. He couldn’t think of a single teacher he had that was pleased with him. After all, for all three days he hadn’t completed a single question assigned to him at home. Ruki wondered if he could help it. He just got so distracted with everything he liked to do that he never even thought of school until the morning, when he took the bus. A sinking feeling would rise up into his throat, and he’d spend most of the time wondering how the teachers would treat him that day. Of course, it was Ruki, and so the idea of trying to complete some homework in the morning never occurred to him. So he was slightly air-headed in that department. But he had his other talents.
It was definitely a shame that his other talents couldn’t keep him out of detention. At this thought he slumped down further in the desk, hoping the teacher didn’t notice this slight movement of his. However, Ruki was blessed at this moment as a girl walked into the room. He stared at her, finding nothing else interesting enough to look at. There were now three other people in the room, and while he knew none of them he found the girl the most interesting, due to the fact she was late and moving around. He looked to the person sitting closest to him, noticing that they were chewing gum. It was a shame detention wasn’t for talking, as he’d be greatly enthused to have a chance to talk to the girl, or to snag a piece of gum from the chewer. ”I am sorry that I am late my bag exploded,” he heard her say. Well, that was interesting. He wished his bag had exploded, he was the one who’d gotten to detention earliest. What a dope. He should have waited a little longer before heading to detention. At this, he slid down even further. And this time, his black skinny jeans squeaked as he moved due to the leather covering the back pockets. He put his hand to his forehead and cringed, turning his head a little to the side. Great. He looked down at his bag, staring at the pins he’d placed all over it. If he distracted himself, perhaps no one would stare at him for long. Mentally Ruki cursed the quiet of the room until he heard the footsteps of the girl as she moved to take a seat. She was one seat ahead of him, as he’d taken the desk in that row that was closest to the wall. Ruki looked up, hearing another person enter the room. Another person he didn’t know. But Ruki was grateful that none of his ex-friends had detention. He supposed that wasn’t likely as they were all much more responsible than him, but he was still glad. He watched the boy come in, not saying anything to the teacher, and he looked on as he held up a cellphone. Not his, he hadn’t even brought his today. He turned his gaze to the girl, it must be hers. She was the one who came in just before the boy. Any of the other students would likely have picked it up on their way to the detention hall. Ruki waved slightly to catch the boy’s attention and he pointed to the girl. luci peeled her head from her arms when she heard the door open. she knew the person that came in must have seen her phone. she sat up straighter when she saw the boy hold up her cellphone. "Thank god!' she thought. the fifteen year old wove her hand slowly trying to signal that the phone was here. she soon saw the teacher look at her. she mouthed sorry and pulled her homework out of her bag.
she sweep her pencil across the paper already knowing most of the answers to the questions. she heard movement behind her. she whipped her head around to see someone she didn't see when she came in. luci wove to be nice. why couldn't they talk to detention? she sighed and turned back to her almost done homework. luci pulled her hair behind her ears and looked around the boring and slightly quiet room. life and school wasn't going her way.

Max noticed the girl who waved her hand around, then mouth 'sorry' to the teacher, meaning the teacher was probably glaring. He couldn't tell; he had his back turned to the teacher. So he just silently placed the cellphone on her desk and took a seat, dropping his bag on the ground next to him.
By now, the girl had started her homework already. One guy was slumping back in his seat, obviously bored, and another was chewing gum. Max was never sure what to do in detention. Some did homework like the girl, but others just sat around doing nothing. What to do, Max wondered. Well since he didn't feel like doing homework at the moment, he took out a notebook where he was in the middle of writing a one-act play. He could work on that.
How long till detention was over anyway, he wondered as he wrote a particularly heated dialogue between two of the characters. But this thought quickly slipped away as he got more into what he was writing. It was an on-stage argument, and he could picture it in his mind perfectly, as if it was being performed on the back of his eyelids.
*Crack*
Max winced as he heard the sound. His pencil broke. No matter, he could sharpen it. There was a pencil sharpener on the wall he could use. He stood, but the teacher made a gesture, silently ordering him to sit down. "But my pencil..." Max started, but the teacher's glare became even harder as he lifted a single finger to his lips. Max sighed, rolled his eyes, and sat back down in his seat.
Now what?

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Detention was probably one of the most boring things that had been created. There was little to do, and while Ruki had his iPod and a book in his bag, he wasn’t exactly sure if he was allowed to listen to music quietly or read a book. It wasn’t his first time in detention, so he doubted anything that looked leisurely was allowed. He sighed, sitting up in his desk a bit more, making sure that he moved quietly this time. He dipped into his bag, pulling out his binder and flipping to a page they’d worked on in class that day. He could finish it up before he went home, but it was just so boring. He really hated homework, almost as much as he was hating detention. He really wanted to talk to the girl, but he saw that she was busy doing her homework. Plus, the teacher was staring them all down like it was military camp. The guy who just walked in seemed interesting too, or at least a lot more than the two others in the room.
He saw the boy pull out something that looked like homework and Ruki could have slammed his head down on his desk. So the two people he wanted to associate with were busy doing homework. That just sucked. He could have attempted to pass notes, if he could be subtle enough to hide them from the teacher. Yeah, that was an idea. Ruki heard a slight cracking noise, and turned to look for the source. The boy had broken his pencil. This was a perfect chance. Ruki flipped through his binder to find a blank sheet of paper, and when he did he tore it out almost silently. At this, he flipped to the beginning of the binder where his pens and pencils were, and he pulled out black pencil with red apples covering it. He wrote down something on the paper and proceeded to fold it into the tiniest square he could get. Reaching over to try and alert the boy’s attention, he held out the pencil, the now tiny paper wrapped over it. “What you in for?” It read in Ruki’s small writing. The fact that the teacher wouldn’t let him sharpen it had turned out great for Ruki, if only the boy would accept both the pencil and the paper. He glanced over to the teacher, he was looking down at a book for a brief moment. This could work! As he held out the pencil, Ruki pretended that he was just doing a good deed and was busy doing his own work. He flipped back to the homework and took a blue pen to pretend to scan over the page. Ruki actually wrote something down for once, deciding that English homework was better than sitting doing nothing. So if the boy never returned the message, he was doing something. Ruki took one more look at the girl, getting a glance of nothing but her hair and her back, and then he returned to work, bored beyond belief. luci finished her math homework very quickly and put it back into her bag. she grabbed her cellphone when the teacher wasn't looking. she looked through the three new text messages, all from addie asking where luci was. luci sighed quietly and placed it back into her bag. she was supposed to go home with addie and callie today but didn't have a choice. and detention was her excuse and she knew callie was going to understand but she didn't know about addie.
luci turned around towards the boy who found her phone. she mouthed "thanks." hoping that the boy noticed. she turned back and noticed the teacher glaring at her again. she covered her eyes and slumped down in her seat trying to be unnoticed. once she heard a crack she turned instantly. she saw that the kid broke his pencil but the person behind luci gave him a new one. she turned around and smiled at the kid. luci turned back to the teacher who looked pretty mad. she slumped back down into her seat.

After his pencil broke, Max just looked around. He noticed the girl, whose cellphone he'd brought in, mouth out her thanks to him. No problem he mouthed back to her with a smile. He looked back at the teacher, who was now preoccupied. Then he felt a tap on his shoulder.
Turning back, he noticed one of the boys sitting behind him holding out a pencil. Thanks he mouthed to the boy, taking the pencil. But then he noticed the paper wrapped around it. Holding it behind the desk, so the teacher wouldn't see, he opened it.
What you in for?
Max smiled. Passing notes to pass time, between cell-mates (sort of). He looked up at the teacher, who was still preoccupied, and so he wrote back his reply. Late to class. Again. You? After checking up to make sure the teacher was still preoccupied, he folded the paper up and held it out backwards to the boy behind him, so he still looked like he was doing his work. Meanwhile, he finished the sentence he was on when his pencil had broken.

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Ruki looked forward to see the girl just after his pencil and note were accepted by the boy. She appeared to be smiling, but was it at him? He wasn’t certain, though he hoped she was, so Ruki smiled back anyway, showing his pleasant smile and the dimples. She wove at him, hadn’t she? Quickly remembering his dimples and how they embarrassed him he turned his smile off rather quickly after, then he looked down, clearing his throat quietly, and he went back to his English. English wasn’t hard for him, but his mother was always proudest when he got decent marks in the subject. His mother was Japanese, and had problems with English from time to time.
And then Ruki looked up to take a peek at the teacher while he was opening the note back up. He smoothed it out on his open binder and carefully took a look at the words. Late to class. Again. You? stared back at him and he gave a small smile, small enough to almost hide those dimples. He knew what he was going to write back, but he wondered if he should pass to the girl next to include her in the group. He figured that would be politest, and so he wrote on the note again. ”I’m here because I didn’t do my homework. Again. I’m Ruki, what are your guys’ names?” There. That sounded alright. He passed the note to the girl while looking at the boy, and he pointed to the girl again with a look on his face that said he hoped it was okay. Now, if they could keep up passing notes perhaps detention would pass by quickly. And at the very least he now had people to suffer with him. He looked eagerly at the boy and the girl, and then stared down at his homework. Ugh. It was still there. IT DYED BY BELOVED FILTH----------OOC[ sorry it’s short, I’m kinda sick right now >< ][/blockquote]

luci tapped her pencil against the desk. when everything was quiet she payed attention to small noises. the seconds clicking on the clock, the swinging of the feet, and pencils scribbling fast over paper. she had a problem with that, she would count the seconds, how high the person was swinging their feet, and trying to figure out what the person was writing. the small things that make luci crazy.
she saw the small note come her way. she grabbed it quietly and saw the teacher preoccupied. the fifteen year old peeled open the note to find a conversation. "i am here because i wasn't paying attention during class again. my name is luci, luci chapel." she scribbled as she handed the note behind her. she knew passing note would pass time.

Max noticed the boy pass the note to the girl and nodded, so he knew that Max understood and it was okay. The girl looked pretty bored herself, so it was good that he was nice enough to get her into their 'conversation'. While the girl wrote, he returned to the dialogue for his play. The heatedness was dying down in it, and one character was going to get really exasperated and just walk away. He wasn't quite sure what word choice to use in the dialogue, so he underlined what he wasn't sure of. He'd return to that later, and edit it as he saw fit. Max edited and changed his plays a lot before they were officially finished.
He continued writing until the note was passed back to him. Finally, he knew the names of the two he was writing to. The girl was Luci Chapel, probably the younger sister to a girl a year ahead of him named Carlene Chapel. The boy's name was Ruki. Max then wrote his reply in his large, dark handwriting. Joseph Keys, but I go by Max. He figured there was no reason why not to tell them his real name, right? He then drew an arrow pointing to his earlier reply, from when Ruki asked why he was here. Since they were all writing in pencil, he figured it may be tough to differentiate, although his handwriting was larger than the other two.

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Ruki let the note release once he felt the girl gripping it to see what was inside. Once that was done, Ruki relaxed in his seat a bit more and sat there tapping his own pencil with the eraser so the sound was rather quiet. He wondered if she’d introduce herself at last, as that seemed most logical. He was quite eager to get the note back, so he watched it enthusiastically as it was passed back to the boy. He couldn’t wait to get their names. Perhaps they would show themselves as friends by the time detention was over. But then, they could just be passing acquaintances, and that thought bothered him. He needed some new friends, and he felt drawn to the two. Or maybe it was just because he was bored…
Finally the note made it’s way back to him, and he opened it eagerly and as quiet as he could. So the girl’s name was Luci - a pretty name that suited her. And by what Max had written here, he believed Max must be a very interesting person. Was he changing his name sometime in the future? Did he prefer Max to any other name? A story could possibly be hidden right there in his names. Perhaps if he got to talk to the boy outside of detention he’d be able to bring it up… unless after detention he had somewhere to go. Grabbing his pencil and positioning properly in his hands, Ruki looked over the note once more, just now noticing Max’s arrow, and then began to write what he’d say on his turn. “Hi Max, hi Luci. What are you guys up to after detention?” There, finished. He was anxious about sending the note back to the others, as he was wondering if he’d asked that question too soon as it could be taken as an invite. He rather hoped the three of them could hang out after detention, as he was in desperate need of some nice-paced socializing. He guess he’d just have to see. Ruki sighed outwardly and handed the note back to Luci. He didn’t really know either of them that well, as he’d just been communicating with them the last few minutes, but he could hope. After all, maybe they’d be up for something due to how boring detention was. IT DYED BY BELOVED FILTH----------OOC[ eated? =O ][/blockquote]

Max noticed as Ruki passed it to Luci. So they were going in a circle. Or, technically, a triangle. He wondered what Ruki would ask next, as a topic of "conversation". Because really, what do you say to someone you just met? Max wasn't sure, so he hoped Ruki mentioned something they could all "talk" about.
As Max paused in his writing, he noticed a teacher walk into the room and talk to the detention teacher. She whispered something to him and he stood. The detention teacher mumbled something about being right back in a jiffy, and left the room with the other teacher. Max let out a lough sigh. Finally, the teacher was gone. Sure it wasn't for long, but it was a breath of "fresh air"... right?
OOC: The girl who plays Luci said she'd be gone for some time, until Sunday I think.

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Ruki was sitting in his desk, eagerly awaiting the reply from the two of them, hoping they wouldn’t mind him asking what they were up to. He himself wasn’t doing anything, so he basically hoped maybe the two of them would hang out with him at the mall or something, even though he didn’t really know them. He needed some friends, and so far he felt comfortable being near the two of them, which was good. Normally he’d be squirming in his desk, wanting to get out. So he had a little bit of social anxiety, that was no big.
He looked up to have a peek at the girl again, hoping he’d see any writing of hers, but he didn’t. So he noticed when another teacher came into the room, walking over to the teacher overseeing detention and saying something to him in a quiet manner. Ruki’s curiousity was raised for a moment but that stopped once he saw both teachers leaving the room. Good, now they could all maybe talk for a second before he came back. Ruki heard the boy sigh and smiled. ”I know, it’s great that he’s gone for now, right?” He looked at the two he was associating with. “It was so quiet in here that I was suffocating.” He joked lamely, looking back to his desk.. IT DYED BY BELOVED FILTH----------OOC[ sorry it’s short, but I just wanted to make a small post here before Emmy posts ^^ ][/blockquote]

luci tapped her pencil against her desk until she saw the note show up on her desk again. she slowly wrote her reply: "nothing really wbu?" she folded the paper and passed it to the person behind her. she twirled her finger around her pencils waiting for the boys replies. luci pulled out her unfinished english essay and started on it.
she heard the creak of the door as it opened. she was relieved to see the teacher leave the room that gave luci some time to socialize with the two boys. luci smiled as she heard ruki talk. "I know right. It hasn't been this quiet for me since I was seven." she responded laughing.
