Since he’d been dealing with it for the past sixteen years, you’d think that Landon would have become indifferent to spending so much time alone. And true enough, perhaps the teenager had adjusted his lifestyle and became accustomed to being self reliant for extended periods of time. But that did not change his uneasiness when it came to the isolation that was offered at his own family’s residence. Today, like any other day, Landon Dallas Holloway was what he liked to call “stranded” in his own residence. It was bad enough being the only teenager occupying his large mansion, but ultimately worse when both of his parents left him there alone, which happened quite frequently (with the acceptation of hired help, of course). But Landon wasn’t one to complain about such things; he knew that would make him sound spoiled and ungrateful. He could just hear people mocking him, “poor little rich boy,” and so on. He was also aware that his parents’ lives were busy and there was nothing he could do to change that. So there really was no point in him wishing for things he had no power to change. In fact, a large portion of him was in denial that he got lonely in the first place. But that still did not change the fact that his boredom could not be kept at bay. He usually hopped on any chance he got to leave his enormous house. In fact, since he always insisted at partying at other residences, not many knew the extent of his family’s wealth. He liked it that way; it was easier for him to be himself.
Himself meaning different things depending on the person he was with. Most of the time he was talkative, friendly, social…and funny. He liked school, loved writing, and enjoyed soccer. He wasn’t really a fighter, but stood up for himself and his friends if he needed to. And the beginning of the school year was his favorite time of the year because he got to meet the most people. But this year wasn’t exactly like every other year. With all those plane crash survivors, Landon still wondered if the almost-tragedy would effect his school year for the worst. So far, so good; there were no problems. The only problem with a plane crash survivor he’d had so far was with Massie Lee…just thinking about the whole mall experience made him feel uncomfortable. But he did not want to think about Massie right now…He wondered if there were any other potential problems from any of the other survivors. He could think of no one…except for…Mitchel Carter. Landon couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes just at the thought of the guy. He still wasn’t exactly sure why he couldn’t stand his best friend’s brother, but deep down a part of him guessed it had something to do with Massie Lee…Massie! There she was again, back in his head! Couldn’t he keep her out?
Looking down at his phone, he thought that perhaps texting could be a good distraction. He pulled it close and scanned through his contacts, trying to find someone interesting. He supposed he could send out a mass message, but didn’t want to have to deal with juggling six texting conversations at once. He stopped when his eyes fell on Luci Chapel. He’d only met her once, recently when they were both practicing soccer. But she’d been fun to hang with and he disctincly remembered wanting to get to know her better. In fact, why not hang out with her, now?
hey, i'm bored. you wanna meet up somewhere?
After sending the message he collapsed onto his bed and grabbed his stereo remote to turn on some music. The music had been blasting for a while when he felt his phone vibrate.
Yeah me too where do you want to meet?
It only took him a second to think of somewhere.
i'm thinking eastside park?
After waiting a few seconds for her response, he read her text and then got ready to depart. Fifteen minutes later he was in his car set to meet up with her.~~
After parking his car a good distance away, Landon walked into the park, his eyes quickly catching sight of a young kid nearby struggling juggle a soccer ball. This instantly made Landon smile, reminding him of previous days. After observing the young boy for a few seconds, Landon turned around and resumed walking, not exactly sure where he was supposed to find Luci. But he didn’t have much time to ponder this, as all too quickly he felt something smack into the back of his head. He quickly put his hand to his head and winced slightly in pain before turning around. The feeling of pain was familiar. It was all too obvious the kid had lost control of the ball. And sure enough, there the red soccer ball was. He quickly picked it up as the kid approached timidly; fear in his eyes.
“Don’t worry about it. Here, have your ball back.” Landon said, tossing the kid the soccer ball and looking around him to see if Luci had arrived yet.
