Here We Go AgainYou never know what you want And you never say what you mean But I start to go insane Everytime that you look at me It had been another early Saturday at the mall. Arriving amongst the early dwellers, Landon had shown up with the intent of buying a few things before leaving quickly. It was always better to arrive at the mall early. There were less people out and the store clerks seemed to be in a better mood. Perhaps it was the fact that in the earlier hours the clerks weren’t being bombarded by needy costumers; often many of them spoiled teenagers such as Landon Dallas himself, but with even more demands and preferences. Truth be told, Landon was the type of person who only pretended to like shopping. With his supposed “vanity” people would think he’d enjoy having tailors cater to his every need, but honestly, it was a little stressful to him; and awkward.
As much as he enjoyed it whenever he looked good, there was always that hidden insecurity that plagued him whenever he tried on an outfit. Thankfully enough, it was seldom that he was disappointed with his looks. But still. And thankfully, no other guys knew about his way of thinking. Insecurity was not something he wanted to flaunt. It was so…so…not him. And honestly, shopping was…boring; and for girls; definitely for girls. But he still liked to keep himself in style. So just about every week he spent an hour or two at the mall just to make sure all his outfits were up to date. This week was no exception. And being the son of a CEO came with a lot of benefits; the major ones having to deal with money. But, of course, there were also the negatives as well, which Landon did his best to ignore. And he did pretty well at it. For the most part, life was good for Landon Dallas Holloway.
Of course, this summer had been rather stressful. It began when he skipped out on the school trip to go visit France. He told everyone that it was a family thing, he liked making it sound like he was tight with his cool parents, but really he ended up in France by himself. He’d grown up there going every summer, his grandparents living there. That was back when his mom couldn’t get enough of him. Now it was a different story. It wasn’t that his mom didn’t like spending time with him, in fact Landon actually thought she was a very thoughtful person, she was just very independent and driven; not to mention busy, like his father. At least she wanted to spend time with Landon in France.
The original plan had been for his mom (Audrey) and him to spend a few weeks in Paris before heading to Lyon were his grandparents lived. Audrey had some “business” she had to attend to in Paris. Landon knew well it was probably shopping and investing in fashion lines. His dad was taking the jet to Monaco for “business” reasons as well, and would drop them off on their way over. He’d join them at the end of the month in Lyon. However, before they were about to depart, Audrey received “urgent news” from one of her charities and had to stay behind. She said she’d be in Paris within a day and that Landon could just go on ahead. So, he did. He flew with his dad into France and stopped in Paris. But his mom didn’t come in a day. She didn’t come in two. She showed up ten days later. It wasn’t like this sort of thing was new to him. He was used to being alone. Sure, perhaps the legality of it wasn’t proper, but when you were rich, you could stretch the rules. He was a sixteen year old living alone in Paris for more than a week. At least he had money.
Then came the first bit of news. One of the flights taking his school on their trip to Lundy Island had gone missing. It shocked him out of his mind. Landon was a pretty casual, and some would say cocky, guy. He wasn’t ready for such serious news. For awhile, he lived in denial, but that didn’t really help him. Half the people he knew had been on that flight, Alexander Carter, one of his closest friends, being one of them. Not to mention Massie Lee. His acquaintances in France got to see a different side of him. He wasn’t so happy anymore; less confident. He was…vulnerable. His parents hired the best psychiatrist. They knew he was probably traumatized. And he did his best to keep acting normal. In fact, he even had a huge birthday party. He looked happy. And he was starting to accept things…
Then the second bit of news came. His classmates had been found. What a strange feeling had overcome him then! He was so glad many of his friends had been found, but at the same time, he was worried. He didn’t want things to become awkward. He didn’t want things to change. He liked how things had been the previous year. And he didn’t want to have to act all….serious, all the time. He hoped the people he knew would return as they had left, and not have somehow changed themselves completely. So far, so good. Nothing major had happened, and Landon had been allowed to be himself. People, as far as he knew, weren’t too different. And he’d talked to a few plane crash survivors. Things were on the up side, and he told himself this was going to be a great year.
But then, of course, there was Massie. They’d had a…complicated relationship before she’d left. They fought, all the time; it seemed like that’s all they were known for. She annoyed him, and he did his best to make she felt the same way. But it was sort of a…friendly annoyance. And he sure didn’t want anything bad to happen to her, or at least, anything bad that didn’t come from him. He hadn’t spoken to her since she’d got back. He didn’t know how. He wanted to…but…he was just too nervous. It was difficult to explain. Every time he got the courage to call her he felt awkward and stupid and worried all too much that things wouldn’t go well…so he hung up. It was stupid, really. Why should he be the one to feel awkward? There was no logic behind it. In fact, at the current moment, he realized this and pulled his phone out of his pocket. Maybe now was the time…
No. Now wasn’t the time, if there would ever be one…Instead he glanced down to see what time it was. It was about ten am, and he’d been shopping for about an hour and a half. He concluded that it was about time he headed back home. He walked out of the section noted for its heavy price tags and headed into a more neutral area. He was headed toward the food court area when he saw a stand of funky sunglasses. He casually walked over and examined them. And entire stand was full of diverse sunglasses; each one looking unique in its own way. Some were big, some oddly shaped, some brightly colored, and some were….just weird. There were even extra mini stands of glasses. It seemed the thing was overflowing with irregularity. What an odd thing to sell.
Landon was reminded of clowns and comedians; picturing only people with a heavy sense of humor making any purchases at this stand. He was quick to realize that he would be embarrassed if someone he knew were to catch him looking at such things. However, he couldn’t help but quietly reach out his hand and grab one of the glasses. That’s when half the pairs of glasses surrounding his desired pair came crashing down, creating a racket of noise. Landon nervously looked around, trying to hide the fact that he was the source of all the noise, his face red. Time to flee the scene

` * and here we go again ; ; WITH ALL THE THINGS YOU SAID, AND NOT A MINUTE SPENT TO THINK THAT WE'D REGRET so we just take it back • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • There were several reasons why Massie was glad to be back in New York. But the most important one was shopping. Ever since she had arrived that was the only thing on her mind. She wasn't the one to spend loads of money on clothes she didn't need but ended up doing it anyway. That's what ending up in a plane crash on a deserted island did to you. She grinned, walking the streets of New York with her phone in her hands. Her eyes were glued to it, not many things could bring her attention away from her phone. It was an early Saturday morning one of Massie's favorite days and she didn't care if her leg still ached, she was headed towards the mall. After the crash, Massie had always had this terrible muscle pain in her right leg. Sometimes it prevented her from even getting up in the morning but she wasn't going to let it mess with her today. She took a bunch of pain killers and ignored everything else. It was the first day she had planned in months to see June, the one person she actually wanted to see.
The mall was quieter then Massie could remember but it was pretty early. She supposed later on today there would be tons of people around, most likely students from Eastside. Massie missed the noise, the island was always so quiet and creepy. She hated it there and was glad they found them all. Actually she was pretty thankful she was still alive. Massie hadn't realized how really weak and defenseless she was until it all happened, it was so sudden. She walked towards the first store she saw, it was definitely not a store she would shop in but who cared. June wasn't going to be here in a while and Massie wasn't going to start shopping without her. Instead she kept herself preoccupied by walking into random stores. She scanned through clothing racks filled with clothes that would probably never fit her, judging them on how they would look on her if she were to wear them.
The shop was quiet except for some fading music, which made Massie wish June would just hurry up already. Things were always better with her "shopping buddy". But then again, June wasn't one for this type of shop, so maybe it was a good idea she hadn't taken her along and she was pretty loud. Massie glanced over towards the counter, would they appreciate how loud they would be? Probably not?... Massie cast a glance again, this time at the girl who was behind the counter. Her expression was blank, and she looked preoccupied, so it was hard to tell. Maybe they were like this because Massie was the only one there at the moment. She walked out of the store, digging in her pocket and looking at the time. Only about ten minutes had passed, she sighed stuffing her phone back into her pocket. She walked around staring at everything that was on display, her phone vibrated and she took it out not paying attention to where she was going. She smacked into someone and felt the pain in her leg a lot more then before and her phone clattered to the floor. Massie winced looking up at the person, her cheeks turning a bright shade of pink.
"Sorry, I need to start paying attention."
She bent down slowly and picked up her phone, putting back into her pocket and walking hurriedly away from the man she had crashed into. Massie felt the weight in her right leg increase and she began to limp slightly. Thankfully she was close enough to the food court and could sit down. A smoothie stand caught her attention and she limped towards it grabbing money from her pocket. She approached the counter smiling brightly at the guy standing behind it who was trying his best not to laugh. Massie's smile was always pretty funny, it was just so big and goofy.
"Orange Creamsicle smoothie please."
She placed the money on the counter and waited patiently, looking around the food court as the guy made her smoothie. A boy caught her attention from a few feet away, he looked familiar but she couldn't tell who it could be that she knew. He was walking towards the exit but redirected himself towards a sunglass stand. Massie loved sunglasses and decided if the pain in her leg ever receded and June showed up, it would be the first place she would shop at. The smoothie was finally done and she limped towards a table, settling herself down and taking a few sips of it. She continued to stare at the guy looking over the sunglasses, he reached for a pair and a bunch of them all fell to the ground. Massie jumped in surprise and laughed slightly, he was walking back towards the exit. She contiued to laugh wondering why he was being so nervous and leaving the scene, as he got closer she noticed the blue eyes that she had seen way too many times. She put her smoothie down and got out her phone searching through it for that one picture. She stared at it in surprise. The guy was Landon, someone she hadn't thought about for the longest. As he got closer she grinned, there was no way he would miss it.
"Holloway?
She stopped grinning, maybe it was a bad idea to draw attention to herself. Obviously she had forgotten how rude Landon was to her almost all the time. The rude remarks and annoying behavior. But maybe he had changed a little since she had last seen him. Hopefully the second one...she thought grabbing her smoothie and taking a few more sips. TAGS ;; Landon && Massie WORDS ;; 965 w/o coding CLOTHES ;; AT THE MALL NOTES ;; totally sucks, I know =P MUSIC ;; HERE WE GO AGAIN - paramore CREDIT ;; KContagiousx3@CAUTION&&Blank Pages

Here We Go AgainYou never know what you want And you never say what you mean But I start to go insane Everytime that you look at me As soon as he saw several pairs of sunglasses collapse, Landon was on the move; his back turned to the stand, and his cheeks red. He winced as he heard the clerk move to see what had caused such a large sound. His feet kept moving. Ah, how utterly humiliating! Why did the fates insist upon torturing him! What were the odds of something like that happening to him ? He’d simply grabbed one pair of sunglasses and the whole case had shattered! It seemed like these types were occurring more frequently. Last week he'd tripped over his own feet when he was going to talk to a girl, and two days later he'd accidentally dropped his phone in the gutter when he was trying to get the phone number of another girl. Whenever he was particularly trying to act suave something always occurred to mess him up. Did the fates hate him?
He continued walking away at a very rapid pace, his face tight and his eyes on the exit. As soon as he was out of here, he would be Landon Dallas again and all of this would be behind him. Thankfully, the mall wasn’t very busy at the moment. He’d seen no one who he recognized, and if he hadn’t recognized them, they weren’t important. Then a quick feeling of paranoia swept through him, he felt as though he was being watched. His eyes quickly scanned the cafeteria. His eyes met with some pre-teen kid who was snickering. Landon glared at him. What an immature thing to laugh about. It wasn’t funny.
He broke eye contact with the kid and his facial expressions finally loosened up. He was almost at the exit, which meant now there wasn’t anything to worry about anymore. His brief moment of embarrassment was gone and he was back to being himself again. And then he heard a voice. It was familiar.
“Holloway?” He immediately stopped walking to look at the person who had spoken to him. But he couldn’t believe his eyes. After looking straight at her, he paused, taking the moment in. Then as if to confirm he was actually standing there, he looked behind himself and checked his surroundings before looking at her again. Was this real?
“Massie.” The fates did hate him. His eyes widened and shyness oozed out of him; as did awkwardness. And Landon, usually being content and confident, did not cope well with awkwardness, or at least, not this type of awkwardness. He took an intake of breath and just stood there, not knowing what to say. And for what was really only milliseconds, seemed like hours. His mind went blank….blank! Now that was definitely not something typical for Landon. But then, he caught himself. As he exhaled his mind began to function once more and he realized what type of situation he was in. And although he wasn’t fully recovered, he at least put on a smile and relaxed a little. “Hey…” And then, another roadblock: it was difficult to even think of what to say to her, because he again got distracted staring at her. This time he really took her appearance in. It’d been awhile since he’d seen her. She looked just as good as ever. She still carried her same thin and athletic build, which was delicately flattered by her apparel. She also had the same soft, chocolate brown eyes, which Landon couldn’t help but stare into. And he even was happy to see her wearing yellow; for some reason, it just reminded him of her. It appeared that everything was right. Now he only had to talk to her.
“How are you?” he asked, his confidence rising. He was doing better. At least now he could get the words out. And with each millisecond that passed, he became more comfortable with himself; even to the point where he couldn’t help but smile. “You know, Lee, I've missed seeing you around.” • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • DATE Late August, Saturday TIME OF DAY 10:00 AM WEATHER Sunny, with a light breeze LOCATION Eastside Mall STATUS Completed LYRICS Here we go again by Demi Lovato WORD COUNT 869 TAGS Massie NOTES no, it didn’t suck =) but my new one is cutting it close

` * and here we go again ; ; WITH ALL THE THINGS YOU SAID, AND NOT A MINUTE SPENT TO THINK THAT WE'D REGRET so we just take it back • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • It must of been extremely embarrassing to end up in such a situation. Massie was clumsy herself but never managed to mess up an entire stand. She ceased her laughing, looking at the owner of the stand who stared confused around the mall. Apparently they hadn't noticed who had made the mess. Massie felt sorry for the clerk, she had to clean all of that up and it was put up so neatly. She watched as she picked a pile up, looking over them to make sure they weren't harmed. The few people who were in the area snickered at the boy and watched as the clerk cleaned it up. Massie had to urge to go and help, it was wrong to watch someone just clean everything up themselves but she was too focused on something else. She recognized the boy, she hadn't seen him since he had gone off to France instead of the school trip. That was a smart move. She stared at him and at the picture on her phone. He had sent the picture to her himself, she didn't know why but it sure did come in handy now.
He didn't change so much, it was the same Landon. Damn, it was the same Landon. It wouldn't be long now until he said something to insult her. Even though she didn't let it be noticeable that he was able to hurt her, she still let him know she didn't like it. Not once before she left for the trip had they actually had a decent conversation. It always led to an argument or he acted stupid around someone else when she was around. Massie wasn't so violent but she almost always wished she could choke him to death. But then she couldn't deny there was a good side to Landon but she was never able to really see that one. She knew he had recognized her voice, he had immediately stopped walking turning to look her way. She winced wondering if it was such a good idea to say anything at all. She smiled slightly, keeping one hand around her smoothie and the other rested on the table. Massie couldn't help but laugh slightly, he seemed so surprised and confused. His eyes were wide and he looked around as if to make sure all of this was actually happening. "Yup."It was odd to hear him say her name, had she really missed his voice? She stared at him, waiting for him to say something. He did nothing but stand there looking at her, probably in shock. From what she remembered he was never like this, Landon always had something to say. She smiled as he finally found his voice. His smile made her feel a little less awkward and she moved trying to make the pain in her leg go away. It was still throbbing and nothing could make it any better. "Hi..."She sighed realizing this conversation was getting so far but at least he was being nice. She blushed, he was staring again with that blank expression on his face. Was he still in shock? Massie let go of her smoothie, sitting back in the chair looking at him. She didn't want to be the one to say something to him and plus she really didn't know what to say either. Massie looked up at him, their gaze met and she couldn't look away. She had always loved Landon's eyes, they were just so dazzling. How are you? She smiled in relief, he finally spoke. Hopefully they would get along this time, maybe he did actually change. "I'm fine, just waiting for June to get here." Massie wanted to mention his little accident so bad but she thought it would be better to just bite her tongue. Things were going too smoothly and she didn't want to spark up his attitude. You know, Lee, I've missed seeing you around. Her smile brightened a little, was he serious? She could never believe the Landon Holloway she knew could ever miss her company. She snorted, something she hated but couldn't help when she laughed. She grabbed her smoothie again and took a large gulp, crossing her left leg over her right leg trying to put as much pressure on it as possible. "Seriously?"She didn't want to tell him she actually missed him too unless he was kidding. Landon knew Massie enough to see how gullible she could be. Here We Go AgainYou never know what you want And you never say what you mean But I start to go insane Everytime that you look at me Landon couldn’t help but draw a sly smirk as Massie admitted she was waiting for June. Memories came flooding back, and a sketchy memory of June Madison formed in his head. From what he recalled, last year June and Massie had been nearly always together. It had felt like the two were inseparable; obviously best friends. Apparently, the plane crash had done nothing to weaken their friendship, and had probably strengthened it.
Landon thought it would have been interesting to see how the two best friends had interacted under such conditions as a plane crash, along with how the group interacted as a whole. He was sure it changed at least some people’s relationship dynamics. His mind quickly went over some of the names of people that he knew had been on the plane; the Chapel sisters, the James twins, Kingston Reed, Jess, Alex….and his brothers, which meant Mitchel Carter. What was it with that guy that made Landon so uncomfortable? For some reason, the idea of him being stranded on and island with Massie made Landon anxious. But he quickly cleared the thoughtout of his head. Mitchel being on that plane also meant the guy had probably spent a lot of time with Jess…maybe that was a good thing. Landon made a mental note to talk to Jess about it later.
But his train of thought was interrupted as Massie’s smile brightened. Oh, she could be so distracting, if she only knew…It was a special moment for Landon, considering it was rare that Massie ever directed a smile at him, given their history. He tried not to let his face go red. He liked this feeling, it was much better than seeing her glare or frown. Maybe the whole embarrassing scene had been worth it? Maybe it was good that she had disappeared to that island; it had changed their relationship, for the better. Maybe now…he could be…nice? She seemed to be doing a good job at playing it coy and acting nice. Perhaps they could form a real friendship? For a moment he visualized hanging out with her. He smiled widely.
“Seriously?” His smile disappeared. “No.” It came out so flat and rude that it sounded as if he'd planned it. He figured it would be better to roll with it. He scowled a little before smiling arrogantly as if he loved the sound of his own voice. He leaned a little on a nearby chair. "I'm mean, it's not like I don't like you or anything." His tone was casual, but cutting.
Honestly, he didn’t really know what had possessed him to do it. Less than a second prior he was planning how to be nice and obtain a possible friendship with Massie Lee. But in one spontaneous act, he was back to tormenting her. He was Landon Dallas Holloway again, and not the one that most people knew, the one that Massie did. His stance became confident and his facial expressions cocky. He reached a level of arrogance that only was possible to occur when Massie was around; funny how she had that effect on him. He took a step to leave her there before a look of disgust fell upon his face and he looked around, his voice irritated and matter-of-factly, “…it smells like oranges and rotten milk...” He then reached forth his hand to grab her smoothie. “What are you drinking?”

` * and here we go again ; ; WITH ALL THE THINGS YOU SAID, AND NOT A MINUTE SPENT TO THINK THAT WE'D REGRET so we just take it back • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • She didn't really miss Landon it was just things were different without him. After the plane crash, Massie was stuck with people she liked and knew well but it felt weird not to be around someone you constantly argued with. She remembered trying to pick fights with other people but it just wasn't the same. Though it wasn't to bad on the island she still felt awful without her taunting friend. Massie wanted him to come along but after what happened, he was better off in France. Then again, Mitchel was there with her. There was just something about that boy that drove Massie insane. She had liked him for a long time but it irritated her because he was already with that Jessica girl. Massie tried to be comfortable around the two but couldn't really be happy for too long. She looked away from him, her eyes scanning the rest of the food court. She had forgotten about breakfast this morning and was now realizing how hungry she was. The smoothie wasn't help so much either. She looked down at it and shook it, it was half way done. Sighing, she placed it on the table and un-crossed her legs. The throbbing had gone away and she was positive the limp was gone as well.
She looked back up, feeling her face get hot. Massie hadn't noticed Landon was still staring at her until now. He seemed to be in his own little world, Massie could even tell he wasn't really looking at her but through her. His expression was blank for the entire time, then his smile widened and Massie couldn't help but smile again also. He had a bright smile but not as large as Massie's. As she was known for her large smile, Landon was known for his beautiful blue eyes. Massie loved that eyes and you couldn't count how many times she would say it. Not that she would say it to anyone but herself. Massie blinked and Landon's smile was gone. No. Her smile disappeared too. She was certain for a while he actually meant what he said. She looked down at her smoothie trying to avoid him from actually noticing how upset that actually made her.
Here came the old Landon Massie knew all to well, with his arrogant smile and sarcastic tone of voice. I mean, it's not like I don't like you or anything. Massie faked a smile before looking down at her smoothie, wanting to get up and go. This was a bad idea and she was stupid enough to think he would actually be nice for a change. People never really change... She looked around trying desperately not to look his way. Not paying the least bit of attention to him was working, or at least that was what Massie thought. At the corner of her eye she noticed him take a step back, hopefully to leave and never come back but that wasn't happening. It smells like oranges and rotten milk... She looked at her smoothie and sniffed the air. It didn't smell that bad to her, and it tasted pretty good. Landon snatched away her smoothie and she gasped slightly, she swore if he did anything to it she would choke him.
She was not even done with it and she knew he would be awful enough to throw it away right in front of her face. What are you drinking? She stood up, reaching out her hand to snatch the smoothie back.
"Obviously it's a smoothie...a good one, so give it back,"
She was never good at defending herself and right now she wished June was just pop out of nowhere and save the day. Like she usually did when something bad was going to happen between Landon and Massie.

Here We Go AgainYou never know what you want And you never say what you mean But I start to go insane Everytime that you look at me For some twisted reason, Landon Holloway liked the effect his behavior was having on Massie. It made him feel…powerful, and in control. But it also was interesting to see how she reacted; the little things she did were cute to watch…well, not necessarily cute…but interesting. Yes, interesting, that was the word. Landon didn’t know why but some part of him always wanted to push her buttons. It was quite odd, considering that no other person had the same effect on him. It seemed like every time he ever got into a decent conversation with Massie, he couldn’t resist provoking her into getting mad at him. Even now, after a whole summer without seeing her and worrying for life, he was back to taunting her. He told himself this was a good thing; that things were back to normal and that’s the way he wanted them. But an inner part of him couldn’t help but ask why.
Did he really enjoy her being mad at him all that much? Surely, sometimes it was cute-interesting to see her reactions but did he really prefer that over how he’d felt before when for a split second they’d been on good terms? Why couldn’t he bring himself to have a decent conversation with her? Maybe become friends with her?…he liked Massie enough…was he…scared? No, of course not! Landon Dallas Holloway would never admit that to himself. He would never be scared of a girl...or at least, admit that he was, even to himself.
A feeling of adrenaline came over as he heard her gasp when he grabbed her smoothie. This was the kind of attention he liked receiving from her…or didn’t like; whatever one. He couldn’t make up his mind at the moment. But it didn’t matter, whatever he was doing he was obviously getting her attention. Score one for Landon. Score zero for Massie. He did hope she’d at least give an attempt at getting him back or try to even the scoreboard.
It was awful when she did nothing. Then it made him feel like he was the bad guy and had to deal with guilt. Yes, sometimes he did feel bad about what he did to her, not that he’d ever let her know that. In fact, he never told anyone about his feelings for Massie. He had a hard time sorting things out himself let alone explaining them to his friends. Plus, something told him that if some of his friends knew about how arrogant he acted around her they’d look at him a different way. Sure, Landon was a confident guy but he wasn’t so stuck up as Massie thought he was. And who would really understand? Part of him wanted to tell Jess, but she was Mitchel Carter’s girlfriend. He didn’t want her to figure out his whole jealousy complex having to do with Massie…Wait, was that what it was, jealousy?
Yes. Really? No. Maybe Yeah right No, maybe…yeah. No. Yeah. Forget it!
This argument continued to roll on in his head until he was interrupted by Massie. He was again reminded that she looked good when she was angry…
"Obviously it's a smoothie...a good one, so give it back,"
He probably would have resisted her attempt to get her smoothie back but he was again too preoccupied with staring at her. Only after she had retrieved it did he realize what he was doing.
I have got to stop doing that…
He couldn’t think of what to say but he knew he had to stay in character. He overreacted to her outburst by taking a step back and acting as if she had been the one out of line. “Really, Massie, really?” His eyes were condemning but teasing, as he anticipated how she would react.

` * and here we go again ; ; WITH ALL THE THINGS YOU SAID, AND NOT A MINUTE SPENT TO THINK THAT WE'D REGRET so we just take it back • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Massie was getting the idea that maybe Landon liked taunting her. Everything she liked or had, he always negatively commented on and she hated it. She wasn't in much of a mood to argue with him and didn't want to say anything back that would trigger him to keep messing with her. Landon was one of those guys who loved seeing there victims paying as much attention towards them as possible. If Massie wasn't so in denial herself she would believe that Landon had a thing for her, like she did for Mitchel. It was like one of those middle school theories, if a boy teases you he likes you. She kept a straight face towards Landon but inside she was laughing at herself. Back in Middle school she would have believed that but there was no way he could like her, right? Of course he doesn't...maybe...no way She shook her head trying not to think about that. Why would she care if he did anyway? She knew the answer to that but kept herself from thinking about it. It actually scared her to. She remembered June telling her that it was noticeable she liked Landon. She didn't like Landon, or at least she thought she didn't. She bit her tongue concentrating on getting her smoothie back then anything else. Damn where was June when she needed her. June was almost Massie's "guardian angel". It was always when Massie was in bad situations like this when she ended up just showing up. She wanted to reach for her phone and text June just to see if she was on her way. It wasn't that she was afraid, she just didn't want to snap and ruin her entire day. She snatched the smoothie away from Landon holding it close to her as if it were special before placing it near her on the table. Massie put all her weight on her left leg, hands on her hips. She clicked her tongue looking at Landon curiously, he was still deep in thought. She could tell because he had that blank expression on his face again and that feeling that he was looking through her was back again. She glared at him, the feeling going away and she could tell he was up to something. Really, Massie, really? Now she couldn't remember the last time he had said that but everytime he did she wanted to attack him. That was the one thing he did to make her feel like the guilty one. "STOP THAT!" She noticed he had moved farther away from her and she stepped closer. People turned to look at them but she ignored them getting red in the face from anger. "I knew it was a mistake to talk to you again." This time she was a little more calm and quieter. She didn't really mean what she said but she was absolutely sick of how he treated her. The red faded from her face and she sat down again, making sure to look anywhere but near Landon. Like she promised herself, she wasn't going to argue. Maybe Landon would get bored and leave her alone. She took out her phone again, staring at the screen hoping someone would call her or text her to distract her from wanting to continue shouting at him. Here We Go AgainYou never know what you want And you never say what you mean But I start to go insane Everytime that you look at me He had hoped that she would react to him, but not in a way that would draw the attention of the surrounding people in the cafeteria. Too bad that was precisely what happened.
“STOP THAT!”
It was a little shocking, hearing her yell at him at such a loud volume. He honestly hadn’t expected that; not to mention they were in the middle of a public square. The whole thing was embarrassing, and also made him feel a little…guilty. But most importantly, it made him want to flee the scene, which is probably exactly what Massie wanted. But Landon knew he couldn’t. One: that would mean he was admitting defeat and letting her win, which he absolutely would not do. And two: he knew he had to fix things with her. If she was that angry with him he had taken it too far…or she was just being overly sensitive…. But he still didn’t like her being that mad at him. It was a potential roadblock for when he would see her again. He didn’t want her to completely cut off contact with him, and he was afraid this incident might lead to such things…only now did he notice that the situation was very fragile. How stupid.
As she took a step forward toward him his eyes widened, everything happening so quickly that he didn’t have the time or the will power to hide his emotions. Truth be told he was very intimidated, and even scared that she was going to let out another loud burst of emotion, possibly a threat. Her face reddened, confirming his suspicious. She was so mad…but so cute. But instead of another loud interjection her voice was much calmer, colder; almost like she was disappointed. This frightened him all the more.
"I knew it was a mistake to talk to you again."
Now that left him feeling hollow. After speaking she simply sat down and avoided eye contact with him, obviously to say that she was done with him. But Landon was not done. He wouldn’t leave under these circumstances. His eyes wandered out of the corners of his eyes, viewing the people who were staring at him. This did not help the awkwardness at all. In fact, it only made him realize how awkward the situation really was. His heart started to race and he was overcome with nervousness. At this moment he was near desperation. But he felt not only embarrassed, but guilty. He didn’t mean for it to be like this. He should have known better than to tease her after she got back from the island. Maybe the island had changed her? Or maybe she was just sick of him? He wanted to apologize, make things right. He could hear the words in his head.
Sorry, Massie. I really didn’t mean it like that…and I meant what I said before. I missed you. It was no fun, not having you around.
But of course, he couldn’t say it. He just stood there like an idiot, looking around at the people staring at him once more. Finally he got the nerve to do something and pulled up a chair across from her. But what exactly to say, he wasn’t sure. He was abnormally nervous, and he had to hide that from her. He couldn’t let anything slip that would reveal his timid state of being. He had to maintain the characterization she was used to, to protect his pride. And seeing as what she’d said before had cut him, he really need to be careful. Finally, he got a bit of confidence back and spoke with a cocky, but cautious voice.
“Okay, fine. I’ll be good.”

` * and here we go again ; ; WITH ALL THE THINGS YOU SAID, AND NOT A MINUTE SPENT TO THINK THAT WE'D REGRET so we just take it back • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Massie was certainly expecting for Landon to run after she had shouted at him. Embarrassment was something that always made Landon sort of weak. For example, fleeing from the little incident with the sunglasses. She had obviously surprised him but it really didn't have much of an effect. He just simply stared at her with that blank expression. Damnit, will he ever stop looking at me like that. Not only did that look make her uncomfortable, it gave her the feeling he could actually tell what she was thinking. Because he was doing the exact opposite of what she wanted him to do. If only he could just go away, and possibly stop talking to her altogether. Things would be back to normal for sure, there was just something about Landon's presence that made her confused. Okay, maybe Massie was being too dramatic. This whole thing wasn't such a big deal, the plane crash really did mess her up a little. Even though she knew it would be better to just drop it, Massie was still angry. She didn't mean what she said but the way he looked at her when she got closer did satisfy her a bit. Massie had never seen Landon look so vulnerable, it was a first. Instead of bringing it up that she noticed his intimidation, she sat down and tried her best not to look his way. He didn't leave. Landon just stood there in silence and it made Massie feel a little guilty. Maybe she did overreact, he was just goofing around. She should have known better. But I'm so damn sick of it! She stared at the screen of her phone, looking at her own reflection looking back at her. She thought she looked terrible when she was angry, why did Landon enjoy it so much? Several reasons came to mind but she pushed them away, clicking random buttons on her phone. She moaned, she had forgotten he was on her speed dial and his face stared at her through the phone. Massie had completely forgotten he was number seven and had aimlessly pressed it. Frustrated and feeling more guilty, she put her phone on the table staring at her smoothie. She didn't even want the damn thing anymore. Massie could still feel all eyes on her and Landon. Apparently the people in the area didn't believe it was over and wanted to see more. She glanced up at Landon, he was still standing there looking as if he were debating with himself. Just leave already, I know you want to. She looked down again this time more upset then angry, if he did leave she would blame it all on herself. She heard the screeching of a chair and looked up. Landon was sitting down across from her, a confident look on his face. Please don't say something stupid. She was already surprised he had actually decided to stay. "Okay, fine. I'll be good."She stared at him, she couldn't believe it he was actually being nice. This was probably the first time Massie actually saw a good side to Landon, well not the very first but, the first in a long time. Massie smiled slightly before deciding that would be kind of weird, it faded back into a serious expression. She didn't really know what to say to him. Her mouth was slightly open like she wanted to say something but couldn't. "Great."That was all that came out of her mouth. Now that he was finally acting calm around her, she didn't have a clue what to say. She took a deep breath and stared at her phone again. Here We Go AgainYou never know what you want And you never say what you mean But I start to go insane Everytime that you look at me After speaking his words he wondered if Massie would respond with acceptance or just another verbal attack. He half expected her to respond with some witty insult. But he could never tell with girls and their emotions. One moment they were bursting with happiness, the next they wouldn’t stop crying. He hated it when girls cried. It was like a twisted form of blackmail. Witnessing it left him all confused, guilty, and helpless, just as he was sure it did to other guys. Crying was indeed a weapon against guys for the average girl. He wondered if girls knew how much power it gave them…But anyways, back to the present. He really hoped Massie wouldn’t get mad, despite his suspicions that she would be. Then again, he was okay with a little anger, as long as she downplayed the seriousness of the situation. Seriousness made him nervous; he couldn’t hide behind arrogance or humor. And was intimidating being with her when he had nothing to hide behind…
But her nostrils didn’t flare with anger, nor did her brown eyes give him a glare. Those were good signs. Massie just stared at him, and he stared back, now feeling very relaxed. He felt…content. He liked this. It was…nice, not having her scowling at him, like before he’d provoked her when she’d smiled and said hello. And on the plus side, as cute as she looked when she was angry, she looked better now when she was…well, what was she? Nervous? Annoyed? Happy? He watched as she smiled slightly and an unfamiliar feeling rushed through him. Maybe she was happy? A smile, even a half one, was a good sign. But unfortunately, it quickly fell away, leaving Landon with doubts.
Please don’t yell at me.
Eyes still on her, he waited for her to say something as it looked like she was about to. But no sound came. He kept anticipating a comment but she said nothing. He just kept staring into her eyes until he finally smiled.
“Great.”
Their eye contact broke and she stared at her phone.
“Great.” He replied. Even though she wasn’t looking at him, he couldn’t help but smile. Interestingly enough, all the nerves were gone, but he wasn’t full of words. There was silence, but he was okay with that. Finally, he got the urge to speak, his voice full of confidence, “So I want to know, Lee, what was it like?” He paused. “You know, the whole plane crash thing?” • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • DATE Late August, Saturday TIME OF DAY 10:00 AM WEATHER Sunny, with a light breeze LOCATION Eastside Mall STATUS Completed LYRICS Here we go again by Demi Lovato WORD COUNT dunno TAGS Massie & June NOTES ah! that was terrible! sorry!!!

` * and here we go again ; ; WITH ALL THE THINGS YOU SAID, AND NOT A MINUTE SPENT TO THINK THAT WE'D REGRET so we just take it back • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Staring at her phone she heard Landon repeat what she had said. She wondered why he had said it like that. Did he expect her to yell at him, she would have but afterword feel guilty about it. She looked up again, he was smiling and it made Massie feel a little less bad. She smiled back at him, sticking her phone in her pocket. Finally she would be able to actually speak to Landon without wanting to leave or kill him. For a long while there was nothing but silence until one of them actually found their voice. So I want to know, Lee, what was it like? She furrowed her eyebrows, what was he talking about. You know, the whole plane crash thing? She made an "O" shape with her mouth and smiled again, she was waiting for someone to ask her about it. it was going to happen at some point. There was nothing really special about it but it wasn't so terrible either. The only messed up part is the problem with her leg. The plane crash wasn't harsh but Massie still remembered how hard it was to walk after it. It lasted only a week but now it was just an irritating throbbing pain.
"Well it was probably the scariest thing ever going down, but the island was alright I guess. She didn't want to mention anything about her leg, she refused to go to any hospitals. And she really didn't want anyone to feel sorry for her. If things got any worse she would just have to deal with the pain, she hated doctors. Even since Massie was a young girl she hated the smell, feeling and people of a hospital. She couldn't stand being around sick people, it made her paranoid and nervous. She looked at Landon remembering he had gone out to France. She had never been there before and she wondered if it was as wonderful as people said. "And France, did you enjoy it out there?" She knew Landon wanted to know more about the crash and the Island but to tell the truth ever since they came back she tried to forget about it all. It was the past and that's where she wanted to leave it. A buzzing and weird sensation came to her leg and she looked down quickly, it was her cell phone. She looked at the screen, it was someone she hadn't spoken to in a long time. She couldn't believe they were calling but it was probably for the exact reason everyone else wanted to talk to her. She ignored it, putting the phone on the table beside the smoothie she wasn't even drinking anymore. She looked around the mall waiting for Landon to reply, more people were coming in and she hoped one of them would be June. She was getting the feeling that June wouldn't even show up. She sighed moving her seat closer to the table and putting her chin on her hand, her elbow propped up on the table. She stared at Landon wishing she could read his mind. He always seemed to be in thought and she desperately wanted to know what he was thinking of. These four walls, they whisper to me
They know a secret I knew they would not keep Didn't take long for the room to fill with dust And these four walls came down around us. -----*----- detour. She’d ended up on the wrong side of the area, and had needed to call her dad to come pick her up. June had never realized how many roads there were in their end of the town! Spending the entire summer away from home had really done something to her memory. She made a mental note to study up on the roads again. It couldn’t hurt, could it? By the time June actually arrived in the mall, she was nearly forty-five minutes late. Her dad had given her a rather long lecture about being careful and not getting lost anymore. She’d responded by telling him that she’d convince one of her friends to drive her home, and he had no need to worry anymore. Of course, her father seemed doubtful… but June hadn’t given him anytime to respond. Instead, she had rushed out of his car and into the mall. Hopefully Massie hadn’t left yet! She glanced at the clock on her cell phone and bit her lip slightly. She’d tried to text her friend earlier, but the message must not have went through since there was no response. Oh, well. If Massie wasn’t around then she’d call her later. They hadn’t actually decided on a location to meet, so June wasn’t quite sure where to start looking. Massie probably had given up on her by this point, but she hoped not. It seemed as if every time they planned something, June ended up being late. Maybe Massie had assumed this and had hung around a bit longer than usual? June hoped so. She wandered around the mall aimlessly for a few minutes longer, and then she arrived at the food court. She placed an order for a strawberry smoothie and paid, before spinning around to see who was all around. That was when a table with two caught her eyes. Was that… Massie?… with Landon Holloway? Well, that couldn’t be good. June felt a slight sinking feeling in her stomach as she blinked. Every time Massie and Landon were together, things got complicated. It sometimes made her feel like such a third wheel… but, other times, she knew it was for the best that she was around. Massie and Landon were quite the odd pair. Sometimes they’d act like they hated each other, other times they’d be the best of friends. June wasn’t sure what the real story was, but she didn’t plan on finding out just yet. Instead of voicing her thoughts, she shook her head to clear her mind and put a smile on her face. At least Massie hadn’t left! It was within the next couple of seconds that June steadied herself and walked on over to the table that Massie and Landon were seated at. She slid over another chair and sat her smoothie on the table. A small smile was planted on her face as she leaned forward and prepared to explain herself for being late. ”Hey, Massie! Hi, Landon.”June managed to smile at them both, holding back her explanation for being late. She didn’t know if the two were in the middle of something or not. She usually seemed to arrive in the midst of things, however. That was probably for the best… she wasn’t sure what the two thought about each other. As long as they didn’t kill each other, though… she’d be fine with it. Maybe she’d ask Massie what was going on between them later? ”Sorry I’m late. I kind of… got lost.”June’s voice trailed off toward the end, her embarrassment shining through just slightly. She was fifty some minutes late. Before this point, Massie had probably given up on her. June had no doubt about that. If it wasn’t for Landon, the other girl would have probably went home. She made a mental note to thank the boy later on. Speaking of him… June turned to Landon, attempting to change her embarrassed smile into a more normal one. ”I didn’t realize you were coming with us, Landon. Not that it’s a problem… it’s just unexpected. She shrugged, hoping she didn’t sound too dumb. That was the last thing that she really wanted. First, she show up late and then she just sits there and rambles over dumb things? Well, that would certainly sound great. June smiled slightly, grabbing her smoothie and sitting back in her chair. Here We Go AgainYou never know what you want And you never say what you mean But I start to go insane Everytime that you look at me Landon was glad to see Massie smile and put her phone away to give him her full attention. Not that he was a narcissist (or perhaps he was around her) but it was an unfamiliarly enthralling to have her focus on him. A sly smile lingered on his face as he waited for her to reply. Thankfully enough, she reacted to his statement in a casual manner; no awkwardness. She even smiled. It was a good sign. He listened as she spoke, and then squinted a little. Not that he was surprised by her positive spin on the occurrence, but he was slightly intrigued. Massie wasn’t the first person to tell him that the island wasn’t too bad. In fact, Luci Chapel, a freshman he had met while practicing soccer, had even teased him saying that he should have been there. The moment had been all too ironic as Landon was wondering about that very thing. For a quick moment Landon reflected on how Luci was able to read his mind so well. Not many could do that. He made a mental note to pursue a friendship with her, and probably text her later.
But he still felt sympathy for Massie. Leave it to her to make something that had at surely been a bit traumatizing to come off sounding only mediocre. Although people had informed him time after time that the island wasn’t “too bad” he still had a hard time picturing spending time stranded at an island anything but stressful and difficult to endure. Yet, Landon at times did find himself partly wishing that he could have been a part of the island crash and thereby be included in the bond that the plane crash survivors appeared to share. It was a complicated, messed up situation. But at least Massie seemed to be doing alright. He was grateful that she had made it through as what appeared to be unharmed.
"And France, did you enjoy it out there?"
Her question caught him off guard, and for a second he frowned uncomfortably and shifted his weight, breaking his happy façade that he usually wore when it came to discussing family matters. He quickly realized his mistake and rearranged his facial expressions to appear calm and content. He hadn’t expected her to remember his flight to France, nor, come to think of it, had he been asked outright about his visit to the country this summer had been before. Usually he prevented the question from being asked by mentioning his “vacation” in conversation and then dismissing it before anyone could get any of the details. People always assumed that any time spent in France had to be great and thereby weren’t surprised when that’s all they got for an answer. In fact, no one knew how it had really been; not even Alex.
“Oh yeah. It was good as usual. Great, even.” He answered in a casual tone, adding some hints of arrogance. But he quickly felt guilty as he remembered Massie had spent her summer crashed on an island and probably didn’t want to hear him brag about how great his summer had been, even if he was stretching the truth. “Probably not as interesting as being on an island, though.” He added giving her a teasing smile. As Landon waited for a response from Massie, he noticed a figure emerge. He felt a knot form in his stomach. He recognized none other than Massie’s meddling best friend, June Madison. Within milliseconds she’d planted her smoothie down on the table and pulled up a chair.
It wasn’t as though Landon didn’t like June. It was just that…she made him feel uncomfortable, and often times annoyed. In the past she’d had the tendency of coming between him and Massie, and this time was no different. Although, he couldn’t entirely blame her, as Massie had informed him that she was at the mall to meet June. But that didn’t stop him from being disappointed now that June had actually arrived. Plus there was just something about girls and their best friends… It was like they were part of some secret organization where they told each other everything and conspired against all guys. And considering the fact that June Madison had barged in on several occasions in which Landon and Massie were at each other’s throats, he was confident that she didn’t really approve of him. Worst of all, since the two girls were so close, Landon knew that June had a great hold on Massie’s mind. Every time June came around, Landon assumed only the worst.
To combat his feelings of awkwardness Landon quickly withdrew back into an arrogant persona. He gave June a mere look of acknowledgment as she greeted him, not really knowing what to do besides act confident. As she confessed that her lateness was due to getting lost, he snorted quietly, but he figured she didn’t hear him as she went on to speak to him.
“I didn’t realize you were coming with us, Landon. Not that it’s a problem… it’s just unexpected.”
If Landon had been eating anything, he surely would have spit his food out due to embarrassment. June’s words had a startling effect on him that nearly caused him to blush. He couldn’t stand the unfamiliarity of the situation and felt like a fool. He was overwhelmed by awkwardness and Landon had dealt far too much of it for one day. He was quick to hide his uncomfortable state by giving her an arrogant, surprised look. “Sure, whatever, April, or May, or whatever your name is.” He stood up as if to leave, his eyes avoiding June. There was no way he was going to stick around now that June was here. “Massie.” He said flatly, about to depart.

` * and here we go again ; ; WITH ALL THE THINGS YOU SAID, AND NOT A MINUTE SPENT TO THINK THAT WE'D REGRET so we just take it back • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • The smle on Landon's face only made her happier that he was here. For a second she even forgot who she was going to see today. Even though she knew they had terrible tension towards each other, this right here was probably the first time she was glad to have him around. It really made her think that maybe she did miss Landon's company. She smiled even wider, wondering if this was the first time someone gave him that answer abut the crash. To be honest, practically everyone had a good time out there. At first it was terrible because no one knew what the hell was going on, but the time there just brought everyone closer. Though she could of been better if the crash hadn't messed up her leg. She didn't want the conversation to revolve around her, really there was nothing interesting in her life right now. But immediately she regretted asking him about his vacation. His smile faded into a frown and he looked uncomfortable. Had something happened out there? She felt terrible for asking.
Landon's expression calmed and she relaxed, putting her hands on the table. Oh yeah. It was good as usual. Great, even. She didn't want to believe but did, anytime in France must of been a good time. She heard the place was not only gorgeous but you had so many things to do. Especially shopping, but she supposed Landon didn't really care about that. Unless he was one of those guys? She didn't even know, Massie hardly knew anything about Landon. Probably not as interesting as being on an island, though. Was he trying to pity her now? Yea Massie would sure as hell have been better off in France but just because he was there didn't mean that she was upset about his vacation being better then hers. She simply smiled, ignoring it. Massie was use to this anyway, it was Landon after all.
"That's great...Ah I'm sure it was much better then the island." She noticed the uncomfortable expression on Landon's face. Massie didn't know exactly why he looked like he did but frowned trying to figure it out. Had she said something wrong. She heard a screech of a chair as June placed herself beside Massie. Hey, Massie! Hi, Landon. She stared at June with a blank expression on her face, she should of been happy to see her but for some reason she was wishing June hadn't shown up. Massie forced a smile on her face, looking back over at Landon who looked like he was going to be sick. He was obviously trying to hide it, his expression changing into the one he had when he stole her smoothie. Massie was expecting the worst. She looked at her friend as she explained why she was late, it was odd how time away from a place makes you forget where things were. Massie would of gotten lost to if she hadn't memorized where almost every store was located around New York. I didn’t realize you were coming with us, Landon. Not that it’s a problem… it’s just unexpected. Massie wasn't so sure but if she knew Landon enough, that would trigger him a bit. She didn't know what was wrong with June arriving that made him turn completely back into the person she very much hated. Unable to keep the smile on her face she waited for Landon's reply in silence, feeling as if she were the one who came between June and Landon. This was way to awkward for her. She watched as June grabbed her smoothie, wanting to grab her own. Massie's mouth was slightly open wondering what the hell had just happened to Landon. Sure, whatever, April, or May, or whatever your name is. Her mouth snapped shut and she glared at him, what was his problem! That was completely unnecessary, he knew her name and didn't have to be so rude. She stood up along with Landon, not ready to let him go without an apology. Massie. No, he was not leaving. "June! Her name's June, and you better apologize. I don't why you're being so rude now that June's around. I can take you treating me like that, but I won't have you doing it to my best friend." She could feel her face getting hot again, this was why she hated Landon. Just as quickly as her hate was gone, it came back again. Massie didn't know what was his problem but it needed to stop. Either he was going to treat them with respect or he needed to stay the hell away from them. Because right now, he was the last thing they needed after what they had been through.
