"Remind me why I signed up for this stupid class again?" Adelyn muttered to one of the other girls in the class. She stood at the top of the slope, shifting back and forth as she studied the various faces around her. They were waiting on the instructor of the class. And, although Adelyn knew very well how to ski and was actually fairly good at it... she had signed up for this class. She knew darn well why she had. She had met the instructor of the class, Derrik, earlier in the day and had found in quite attractive. Hence, here she was, standing at the top of the bunny hill, freezing her butt off, and pretending to know nothing about skiing. It was really quite amazing at how far she was willing to go to meet a cute boy. Especially since she aleady had a boyfriend.
Pulling her light red jacket closer around her body, Adelyn shivered slightly. The class was supposed to start nearly ten minutes ago. She was about to leave and go do some real skiing, when she suddenly heard someone coming up behind her. Turning slightly, Adelyn was surprised to find a rather unattractive middle aged man standing there wearing the official uniform for the employees around here. "Hey there everybody. Now, Derrik couldn't make it today due to a sudden illness... so, I've stepped in to take his place. Ya'all can call me Jeff. Now who's ready to learn?"
Adelyn groaned, shaking her head slightly as Jeff continued on to explain how you were to wear your skis. As if. Rolling her eyes, Adelyn picked up her own set of skis and trudged back in the direction of the ski lift. Rather annoyed over the whole instructor thing, Adelyn wasn't even watching where she was going and managed to collide with someone coming in the other direction. Great. "Watch where you're going," She snapped, hastily as she looked up to see who she had run in to.

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Crap! He was late again. Ruki scrambled around the lodge, throwing on his ski jacket and putting a warm toque over his head. He was going to have to rent the skis, otherwise how was he to learn without them? This was more stressful for him than he had thought it would originally, but it was his own fault. He had gotten lost in the middle of a good book, and had wanted to finish it quickly so he could start on another one. It had been a long time since he’d had a chance to read, over even bothered to look at a book. Usually he was sewing or jumping around on the internet, but as far as he knew there was no internet where he was, and he did not want to be seen sewing without a sewing machine. It just looked… too feminine. And he’d already had a couple of encounters where he’d been asked if he was male or female. Rather embarrassing, to be quite honest.
Slipping out the door of the ski rental, he’d picked up his skis and was then heading towards the slopes, where his ski class would be starting. Athletically challenged, Ruki preferred quieter, safer hobbies where he didn’t have to worry about breaking his neck. Yes, Ruki was extremely nervous about trying on a pair of skis again (he’d had a terrible crash when he was a lot younger), and even a little scared. What if he crashed into a tree again? He really did not want to be made fun of. He got enough of that from family members from time to time. Carrying his skis, Ruki raced toward the bunny hill, trying to grip at the snow with his boots. He slipped and slided as he trudged through the snow as quickly as he could, finding it more difficult as he was treading upwards. But before he assumed the climb up the hill, Ruki noticed the ski lift. Oh. Well… that was kind of a duh moment. Ruki got onto the ski lift nervously, hoping it was safe. Because if he fell he felt like he might slide down the hill, seeing how sleek it was from the skiers around the hill. Taking a deep breath, Ruki stopped staring down, and when he opened his eyes again he had almost reached the top. Jumping off at the appropriate moment and slipping in the snow, he realized he wasn’t wearing his skis yet. Sliding into them, he slid gingerly toward where he figured the class was taking place, before noticing a girl heading in his direction. They collided, and Ruki heard her snap at him. ”I’m sorry. I’m not very agile in these skis.” He said, examining the girl. “Are you hurt?” He asked, nervously looking toward the ski class he was late for. IT DYED BY BELOVED FILTH----------OOC[ Yours is fine xD I'm sorry mine kinda fails. ”I’m sorry. I’m not very agile in these skis.” The person she had ran into was now speaking to her. Adelyn glanced up at them, and frowned slightly at this. She hadn't exactly expected them to apologize. If anything she had expected them to argue. But, whatever. She supposed this was fine too. "Clearly," Was her simple retort. The boy looked familiar, probably from Eastside High's group of kids. In fact, she was sure she had seen him at the school once or twice. He also seemed kind of rushed, maybe even nervous. And, he was glancing in the direction of the ski class that she had just fled. This made Adelyn smirk lightly. The class was a waste of time in her opinion... that's probably what he was trying to make it to. She'd be doing him a favor by standing there and talking to him.
"Are you hurt?" At his next words, Adelyn turned her attention back to him. She frowned lightly, considering her answer for a moment, but then she shook her head. "No," Her eyes glanced in the direction of the class. Jeff was now talking louder, or at least it seemed so since she could clearly hear most of what he was saying now. She could see him pointing to a pair of ski poles and explaining them, and she couldn't help but to roll her eyes slightly. Surely the people in the class had already gotten the lecture about the poles from the equipment people? Or, there again, maybe not. She wasn't sure since she no longer rented her equipment. Turning her attention back to the boy, she gave a small shrug.. "I'm cold... but, I think I'll live. Though, a warm coffee would be good about now..." Adelyn smiled lightly shaking her head.
Jeff's voice drifted in their direction once more and Adelyn sighed. Did the man ever stop talking? "Are you on your way to the beginner class?" She questioned him, nodding her head in the direction of the class. "Personally, I think it'd be a waste of your time to go," Adelyn added, without waiting for much of a response from the boy. She wasn't afraid of voicing her opinions about that class. Even if she hadn't stayed to hear anything that Jeff had to say. She pulled her thin jacket tighter, finally deciding to zip it up. The wind was picking up slightly and it looked as if it would start snowing soon. Which wasn't something Adelyn was overly thrilled about. Not at all, to say the least.
[It was good. =) No worries.]

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY At the girl’s simple retort, he was rather taken aback. He wasn’t used to the simplicity of bluntness, and therefore he was a bit shocked. He didn’t consider her rude, but… he wasn’t sure what to make of her. “Yeah, I guess.” He said with a chuckle, trying to be friendly.
”Oh, good. I’d hate for someone to be hurt due to my own personal fail.” He said, laughing again. Maybe if he continued in this manner he’d be able to make friendly with the girl. She already fascinated him with that blunt response of hers. It was nice to meet someone who stated it like it was. It was refreshing. Ruki looked back over to what he knew to be the class of beginners. He could hear the instructor speak, but it was of simple things he already knew. That made him feel better, seeing as he wasn’t a total imbecile on the subject. “Yeah, coffee would be good.” He agreed, speaking a little more softly than before. He took in the girl’s light smile with ease, and allowed himself to crack a smile himself, slightly showing the dimples he hated so much. ”Um… Ruki faltered. How much of a loser did he look like by trying to go to the beginners’ class. But he decided lying would be no point. “Yeah… I guess. I’ve never really been a great skier. I thought it would help, but… I guess it would be a bit pointless.” He shrugged. For some reason this girl made him want to be liked by her. People like that always intrigued him, but he wondered what exactly it was about them that made him feel like that. Perhaps she was popular and just had that natural effect on people. Or it could just be himself, desperate to know someone else on the ski trip. He’d had yet to meet anyone else he knew, being that he hadn’t exactly chosen his room yet. Ruki looked around for a moment, feeling the cool wind cut through him. The skies didn’t look too friendly, either. “Why don’t we go get that coffee, then. There’s no way I want to stay out here for much longer. I’ll treat you.” He said, still looking around before looking back to the girl. The ski class no longer interested him, and the weather wasn’t to his liking. IT DYED BY BELOVED FILTH----------OOC[ yay ^^][/blockquote]

The boy seemed rather surprised by her simple responses. Adelyn smirked lightly as she realized this. She knew that she could be a lot more direct than many people... but, she personally didn't have a problem with that. She figured that it was better to be direct than to just hold her opinions in. She pushed her hands deeper into her pockets as she studied the boy in front of her for a few seconds. He seemed friendly enough, but Adelyn didn't really plan on making friends with him. At least, not right off the bat.
However, even after a few blunt retorts, the boy's friendly attitude didn't seem altered at all. If anything, the friendly nature was... growing? Adelyn wasn't quite sure how to take this. In fact, most people were less than friendly about blunt remarks. She decided not to mention it. Instead, she gave a dismissive smile and shrugged. "Yeah, that'd suck," She agreed dismissively. Once again, she kept her remarks to the point. She wasn't sure what she was trying to prove... but, she'd worry about that later. Her attention now shifting back to the beginner class. Jeff was still talking about ski poles. She considered going back to the class, only for a second... but then, the boy she was talking to started to speak again and her attention was drawn back to him.
"Yeah, coffee would be good." As he agreed with her, Adelyn simply nodded. She noticed that he had finally cracked a smile, and she couldn't help but to keep her small, slightly arrogant smile on her own face. What could it hurt? She didn't even know the boy's name... and, by this point she was sure he didn't recognize her, either. Unless, of course, he was mistaking her for Callista... but, Adelyn highly doubted that. Callista, after all, was a blond, much more meek and... well, Adelyn decided to change her train of thoughts. Her twin sister and herself weren't exactly on the best of terms at that moment. In fact, Callie wasn't on the top of her things to worry about at that moment.
Adelyn shook her head slightly, deciding it was best to just avoid those thoughts all together. She'd worry about Callie later... "You wouldn't be missing much," She muttered, twisting a strand of her slightly wavy hair around her finger. She was known to do so when she was distracted, or nervous. This time, mostly because she was distracted. "I could teach the class better than that guy." Adelyn added, with a shrug. Although, with her lack of patience, it was highly doubtful that she would be able to teach anything better than Jeff. This boy, however, didn't know that. Not to her knowledge.
Adelyn's thoughts were preoccupied for another minute or two. She twisted her hair tighter around her finger for a second more, before letting it rest back on her shoulder. Her fingers were finally starting to get cold, and she placed them back into her pockets. At the boy's offer, Adelyn's gaze shifted back to him. She raised her eyebrow slightly, and studied him for a second. She was actually rather... surprised by his offer. Once she was sure that he wasn't joking, and that she wasn't being Punk'd, she finally gave a small smile. For once, it was half-genuine. "I'd like that," She finally agreed, with a small shrug. The wind picked up once more and she shivered slightly, eying the clouds briefly before turning toward the ski lift. "Let's go. I don't want to get stuck in whatever storm is on the way," She added. She gave him one last look, and then paused, eying the ski lift. "Are we skiing down or would you rather take the lift?" Well, it was better to ask than to just assume... she supposed. Especially since he was just on his way to the beginner class... and, more or less, so was she.

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Ruki kneeled down for a moment to take off his skis. As he did, he gazed up at the girl. “Excuse me for a moment,” he said. As he took them off he looked relieved to be out of them. Pulling them out of the snow, he held them at his side, allowing the end of the skis to rest in the snow to take some of the weight off.
”Yes, yes it would.” He grinned. “Not like we need to have anymore accidents on these trips. I heard about the plane going down on the school’s last trip. I didn’t go, but I heard a lot about it after. I mean, who didn’t. But yeah…” He allowed his words to trail off, not sure about what to do or so. He awkwardly dug gloved his hand into his pocket, looking at the ground for a moment and kicking at the snow. She didn’t seem to be into making much conversation, but then she probably didn’t care either way, he thought. But Ruki did. He didn’t know why, but he’d figure that out later. And if she wasn’t up for conversation, he was going to try to stop attempting to force it. After all, there were other students on the trip. And maybe he’d make friends with whoever he ended up sharing a room with. Speaking of which, where had he even left what he had packed? Who’s room had he borrowed? Ruki sighed inwardly, confused. He guessed it wouldn’t be too much of a big deal. He hadn’t brought anything that he thought would be stolen. Like his lap top… he should have brought that. Maybe the ski resort had Wi-Fi. He’d definitely have to look into that. Deciding not to worry about anything anymore, he returned his attention to the girl after a brief moment. What had she said? Oh, he wouldn’t be missing much. Ruki thought that was a little rude, but then again, she had run into him and he assumed it was his fault. But the class was beginning to look more and more unappealing. Maybe he’d just skip it and then attempt skiing later. Or maybe never. Yeah, never was good. He’d have no problem just sticking around the lodge or just walking around outside. But then, after almost zoning out, he heard her say ”I could teach the class better than that guy. And so, Ruki, attempting to be friendly again, replied. ”Well, if all goes well I might just have to take you up on that offer.” Hmm… there he was, assuming she had offered to teach him. Was he wrong? He didn’t think so, but then he’d always been a bit of a more positive person. Introverted, but positive. One needed to be if one had to deal with Ruki’s friendship difficulties… and the death of his little sister. Ruki watched the girl’s smirk turn into what appeared to be a completely genuine smile to him. He liked that smile, and he felt a little bit of warmth crawl up his body, and he couldn’t help but grin a little more himself. He was being more talkative than usual, but he didn’t mind. He was on vacation, and he was going to enjoy it. “Well, I’d like that, too. So let’s go. Down the uh… ski lift, if you don’t mind.” He wasn’t sure he had the gall just yet to try and ski down the hill. He only knew the basics, but as far as stopping went… he didn’t want to try that again. Usually, ever time he attempted to stop he’d fall sideways. Then, Ruki looked down at his feet. Oh. Time to put the skis back on. Snapping them on as quickly as he could, he grinned sheepishly. “Yeah, that storm is definitely something I’d be comfortable avoiding.” ”So, what’s your name? I’m Ruki.” He said, gesturing his hand toward the ski lift, trying to be polite in letting her go first. IT DYED BY BELOVED FILTH----------OOC[ blah, more ramble xD][/blockquote]

Adelyn nodded as the boy knelt down to take off his skis. He seemed kind of relieved to be out of them. Which, wasn't really a surprise to her. Some of the rental skis were very uncomfortable. Plus, most of the beginner class had taken off their skis within the first several minutes of the class. Adelyn, wanting to blend in, had been included in that bunch. She just now remembered this, however, and decided that now would be a good time to put them back on. Kneeling down, she slid her own skis back on as the boy managed to slide his off.
At the mention of the trip to Lundy, Adelyn's attention was suddenly directed back to him. She had so many mixed emotions about it... she didn't even know what to think about the trip. Some how, she had managed to push the thoughts of the trip to the very back of her mind for the past several months... aside from when it came time to sign up for this ski trip. "Oh my god," Adelyn started, momentarily forgetting about her one or two word retorts. She suddenly was rather distracted by various thoughts and events that happened on that trip, "I was on that trip! I was kind of hesitant to sign up for this trip after that..." Her thoughts trailed off, glancing to the snow. She debated on saying more, but later decided against it. Most of what she was thinking, she had yet to sort out herself. For instance, Luci and she still weren't on the best of terms... and then there was Alex. They were still dating... but, she was still feeling slightly guilty about it. Oh, and Callista...
Once again, Adelyn shook her head deciding to stop her train of thoughts there. Once again, she wanted to avoid sorting out any of her problems and just let them fix themselves. One of these days she was sure it would backfire on her... but, until then she didn't plan on changing her ways. Why bother changing them when they'd worked so... well... for her in the past? Adelyn herself didn't see a point. And when she had her mind set to something.... that's the way it stayed. An annoying trait for some? Yes. But, that just made it all the more... interesting.
The conversation, if that's what you could call it, kind of died for just a minute. Adelyn shifted in her skis, sliding her feet deeper down into her boots. Her mind momentarily drifted back to the ski class... only stopping to scan the faces of the crowd there. It seemed as if a few more people had joined the class since she left. Which, was very surprising to Adelyn. Why would they join something that was a waste of their-? "Well, if all goes well I might just have to take you up on that offer." The boy's voice suddenly made her jump, pulling her back from her thoughts. She turned, staring at him for just a moment. What had she offered? Racking her brain through their previous conversation, the only thing she could come up with was her remark on teaching the class. He couldn't possibly be speaking of that... could he? Deciding to act as if she knew well what he was talking about, Adelyn gave a sharp nod.
"Great," And, once again, she was back to one word responses. Adelyn decided to worry about whatever it was she had offered to do later on. For now, she just gave a slight smile... hopefully one that looked convincing enough to pass as 'I can't wait' or at least something to that extent.
Adelyn gave another nod, still holding her small smile on her face. She actually was kind of happy to be getting out of the cold weather. And, although she much preferred to ski down the hill, she decided not to mention it for once. Mostly because she still wanted to be able to pass for the beginner class if Derrik were to ever return. But, she decided to instead just keep smiling. "The ski lift's fine," Adelyn agreed, holding back a slight laugh. "And, yeah, personally I like to avoid the snow storms." She shrugged, her smile turning rather sheepish. Okay, so maybe the boy wasn't quite so bad. She decided to try to be a little more friendly.
Adelyn stepped in the direction of the lift, making sure that he was following her toward the line as she did so. "Adelyn. Adelyn James... but, most people just know me as Addie." She concluded in reply to the boy's question. "Ruki is an interesting name... I haven't heard that one before." She added, glancing back at the boy, who she now knew to be named Ruki, as she walked. She stopped at the short line for the ski lift, waiting for their turn.
[ no, it was good. =) if anything, this is a whole lot of ramble. xD ]

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Ruki watched as the girl took her turn to place her skis on. Yeah, it looked like he’d made a mistake in taking his off. But oh well, he’d put them back on later. No way he wanted to kneel down in front of her just yet. He didn’t know why that made him uncomfortable, but it did.
”Oh my god, he heard. And instantly his turned his head toward her. Was he about to hear something interesting? Perhaps he was. Ruki politely kept his gaze on the girl as she continued to speak. "I was on that trip! I was kind of hesitant to sign up for this trip after that..." he heard her trail off. Cool. Maybe she could tell him about it, if she didn’t mind. Being that he hadn’t been there, he hadn’t heard about all the drama that had taken place on that trip. He wasn’t aware that maybe some people didn’t want to talk about it. He himself hadn’t gone as he couldn’t afford it at that time. ”Really?” He said, his interest peaking as he raised his eyebrows for a moment. Not that they could be seen underneath his toque. “Well, I’m glad you survived it. That must have been scary.” He said, deciding not to prod her for too many details. He didn’t want to be rude and intrude on her personal space. But all he knew is that he would have been pretty freaked out about being stranded. He noticed her shake her head, too, and frowned for a moment. What was she thinking about? Noticing his new companion’s head turn toward the ski class, Ruki let his own gaze wander over to the group. Oh, so there was a few more people. That was good… if he had gone. That would have meant he wouldn’t have been the only one who was late, which was good. He didn’t like to stand out too much in that way, and didn’t want to be pegged as “the late one”. His own personal style made him stand out too much, anyway. Yeah… he supposed his clothing choices and the makeup really didn’t suit his introverted side at all. But oh well. He loved his own style. Ruki started to look around again, noticing the conversation ebbing away for a moment. What if it stopped completely? He didn’t want anything to be too awkward. He didn’t handle awkward well at all. But then he heard her speak again, and relief swept through him. ”Great,” he heard and assumed it was in regards to his belief that she had offered him skiing lessons. Oh, awesome. He’d love to be taught by someone else, and he definitely would prefer that to being taught in a class, where he could always turn out to be the most challenged person there. “Thanks,” he replied, offering her a small smile, noticing hers. To him, it looked like she might be excited to teach him, and he felt quite happy. Ruki looked at her as she agreed with him. Good, he didn’t want her to miss out on the… uh… fun? Of skiing down the hill. But he really did not want to give it a try, so he calmed himself. He didn’t have to ski today. His skis now on, he slid over to the girl as she waited in line for their turn to head down the hill. “Adelyn?” He said, knowing the name rang a bell. He wondered why for a moment, but then he remembered. “Isn’t your IM screen name ‘timeto_ad’, or something like that? We talked for a while. If I’m right, you had been talking about your party.” He was filled with excitement for a moment, hoping that he had gotten her right. "If so, you have heard my name before. You said something about it being a neat name, or whatever." He hoped it didn't seem weird for him to remember something like that, but he was pleased that he did. This meant that they might be able to speak to each other on better terms, knowing that they'd spoken before, however briefly. IT DYED BY BELOVED FILTH----------OOC[ eated? =o][/blockquote]

At the mention of the trip to Lundy, Adelyn seemed to notice the boy's interest pick up. She was actually rather surprised by this. Okay, not so much surprised... since a lot of interest was taken in the trip to "Lundy" after the plane had crashed. Heck, it was all over the national news. But, for some reason, Adelyn found his surprise kind of comforting. Maybe it was because she hadn't been asked too much about her time there. She'd been asked about it in general... but, never just staring her. She'd always been with Callie, Alex, or even Luci when the topic was brought up. And, that was just one instance in which she seemed to hide behind their false comforts, instead of taking the spotlight for herself. Or, maybe she was just thinking too far into this...
"Oh my god, you have no idea... it was-" She paused, racking her mind to decide the best way to sum it up. She didn't want to bore him with her soap opera of a time there. Especially since he probably didn't know half the people she would be talking about. She was, after all, a freshman... as were most of her acquaintances. This boy hardly looked to be a freshman. He seemed to be older than herself. "It was full of drama, to say the least. There were moments when I wasn't sure what to think..." Her thoughts trailed off there, and Adelyn gave a small shrug. It seemed basic enough without saying all that she was thinking. Like, for instance, that it was where she managed to get her one best friend to hate her, while the other confessed his love for her. Yeah, that wouldn't make her sound crazy or anything. Not at all.
After replying "great" to whatever it was that she had offered to do, Addie managed a grin. He thanked her and she simply shrugged. Okay, so clearly she had managed to get through that little mishap without him noticing. Now... if she could only figure out what she had offered to do? Keeping her small smile etched onto her face, Adelyn nodded. "Sure... just uh... let me know when?" She tried. Whatever it was that she had offered to do, she was sure it wasn't that bad. What had they talked about? Skiing? A trip to "Lundy"? Yeah, she could handle it...
After stating that her name was Adelyn, she was rather surprised to hear him question if her screen name was 'timeto_ad'. Especially since it was, indeed just that. She was starting to wonder if he was some sort of stalker or something, but refrained herself from asking outloud. She was rather relieved about that once he stated that they had talked on IM once. At the mention of her back-to-school bash, Adelyn grinned. Oh, had that been fun. "Yeah, that'd be me." She agreed. She racked her mind for any trace of the IM conversation, but only had a slight thought. Though, now that he mentioned it, the name 'Ruki' did seem slightly... well, familiar.
"Oh, that's right!" Adelyn concluded, giving a small nod. "The name 'Ruki' does ring a bell now that you've mentioned it..." Well, it was certainly a small world after all. Slowly, she reached up and began to twist her hair around her finger once more. Gosh, what a surprise. That was... well, unexpected. "It's... nice to meet you in person finally?" She half-asked and half-stated. Moving up a bit in the line, Addie managed to give a small sheepish smile to confirm this.

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Ruki listened quietly while the girl spoke of the previous school trip. He was really curious about hearing about it from someone who had actually been there, and not just the gossip in the school halls. He hadn’t really picked up any information about it before, just that the plane had gone down and a bunch of students had been stranded for a while.
”Well, that must have been hard for you. But that makes you a survivor. And if you ever want to talk to someone who doesn’t really know you or what happened, then just let me know. I’m usually on instant messenger. If you forgot, I’m painful.accident.” He said, offering her some time to vent or do whatever it is she may want to do. He didn’t want to sound nosy, but that was a risk he was going to take. He was in a good mood, and hadn’t been this talkative since… ever. So he was really enjoying himself with this girl, even though they’d just met in person. At her response to her offer – what he assumed was an offer – Ruki smiled again. For some reason he didn’t want to be held back anymore because of his dimples. If he wanted to smile, he should smile. But then… that would probably change once he got back to school and was stuck with so many people he felt uncomfortable with or didn’t know. “Thanks. I will, but maybe I’ll just avoid skiing altogether,” he laughed softly. “I’m really not very good at it. I just came on the trip to try and get to know some people.” He said, mostly honest. Really it was because he wanted to show his parents that he could take an interest in school activities if he wanted to. And with all the excitement about the trip to Lundy, Ruki wondered just what could occur on this trip. Ruki grinned shyly. Maybe he shouldn’t have brought it up. Was it weird that he remembered their conversation? It hadn’t been anything particularly special, just a bit of pointless banter back and forth. But he didn’t chat with that many people from Eastside, so hers was more memorable than someone else’s. “I thought so,” he said, smile now gone. “It’s definitely nice to meet you in person.” He agreed with her, ignoring the bit of a question she had in her voice. Finally, though, it was their turn in line at the ski lift. Ruki nodded at this, and gestured to it. “I’ll follow you down,” he said happily. “I can’t wait to get that coffee. Are you more of a coffee person or a hot chocolate person? Because I’m definitely a coffee person. Or anything with caffeine, really.” He was partially joking. But he was known to stay up all night sewing or designing things, not doing his schoolwork but rather focusing on his hobbies. “So… um… what do you like to do for fun?” Not knowing what else to ask. Adelyn had never really thought of it that way. She was kind of a survivor. Actually, there was no kind of about it. She was a survivor. She couldn't help but to grin slightly as the boy offered to listen if she needed someone to talk to. Despite her prior beliefs, the boy was actually very nice. He usually wasn't the type she would be seen spending time around... if anything, he was more like someone Callie would befriend. But, maybe she was being too quick to judge. In fact, Addie wasn't entirely sure as to what to say to his offer. It was actually very nice of him.
So, she mustered up a smile smile and decided to toss it back out to him. "I uh... well, thanks," She realized how hesitant she sounded and gave a rather meek smile. It wasn't like her to actually thank someone. Or, for that matter, to make herself sound hesitant about anything. She was actually rather surprised by herself. But, whatever. It wasn't like this boy knew her well enough to know that this was anything out of the ordinary. Heck, he probably thought she was anti-social or something, considering the lack of responses she had given him over the past several minutes. "And, I guess if there's anything you'd like to know about it... well, you know my name." She gave a small smile and a shrug. She hadn't spoken much about the trip. So, maybe it'd be a good thing to get some of it off of her chest?
Ah, so that's what it was about. He had thought that she had offered to teach him to ski after all. Well, Adelyn supposed it could have been worse. She could have volunteered to shovel snow or organize files or something. That would have really sucked. She considered telling him that she really didn't teach stuff and that he was on his own... but, she soon changed her mind. She'd come up with a logical excuse later... or, maybe she would teach him. She really didn't know, but Adelyn decided that it was best if she just worried about it later. Instead, she laughed along with him, and, for the first time, noticed that he had dimples. She always found dimples rather cute. It was odd. "It's tons of fun once you get a hang of it," Adelyn spoke, with a slight shrug. "I wouldn't give it up just yet..." She trailed off, momentarily thinking back to how horrible of a skier she herself had been all those years ago when she started. Now, however, she felt like an expert... or, close at least.
"I can introduce you to some people," Adelyn spoke up, at his mention of just coming on the trip to meet people. If they were going to be friends, she figured that she might as well see if he fit in with her crowd or not. Her mind drifted back to her thoughts about him seeming more like one of Callie's friends. Maybe this would be her chance to see just that. "I know a good share of the school." She added. Although, this was true, she decided not to mention that she didn't get a long with most of them either. That was a rather unimportant detail in her eyes. He could figure that out for himself if he cared that much, she figured.
Their turn in the ski lift came fairly quick. Adelyn hated the part of getting on. She used to be afraid of heights altogether... but, she'd gotten better about it over the years. Ski lifts didn't scare her at all anymore... it was just making sure you got all the details right to start with when you got on that annoyed her. She hated the details of things. Sliding into the seat, Adelyn motioned to the seat next to her. They could fit two people... why make him wait until the next one? Plus... well, she'd never ridden one of the ski lifts by herself and she didn't intend to start now. "C'mon," She insisted, with a slight grin. "And, I prefer coffee... though hot chocolate can be good." She giggled slightly at his response. Caffeine was always a good thing.
Once he sat down, Addie addressed his next question. "Shop, party, travel... really, it varies." She shrugged, surprised by the random-ness of the question. But, then she brushed it off and pushed her hair behind her ears. It was starting to snow lightly now. "And uh... what about you?" She decided to return the question. pulling up the hood of her jacket as she did so. She didn't want to get too much snow on herself.

[ Ruki ] THE REVERSE SIDE OF BEAUTY Ruki wondered about his new companion. What was she like? What sort of people did she hang out with? The more he thought about, it the more he thought that maybe he wouldn’t turn out to be someone she’d like to make friends with. Maybe he was too weird for her… too different. But then, maybe she wasn’t a shallow person. Maybe he had a chance. He was probably just paranoid. He was enjoying himself. And he was going to try and keep it that way for the rest of the trip.
Smiling at her response to his own offer, Ruki nodded, grinned and looked down at the ground, a little sheepish. He was pleased she hadn’t snapped at him about it, as he had thought might happen. But instead, she’d also offered him the chance to hear about it. To learn about it from someone who’d actually survived it. If that wasn’t the start to a great friendship, he didn’t know what was. “Thanks,” he said, looking at her again. “I’d like to hear about it from you.” At her response to her offer – what he assumed was an offer – Ruki smiled again. Ruki nodded as he heard her talk about skiing. A sport that made him fairly uncomfortable. He figured he was probably bad enough to ski off a cliff… that was what was holding him back. He didn’t want to do something to hurt anyone else, either. So he wasn’t sure how safe he would be when skiing. “I’d like to believe you,” he said, now partially joking, “But I’d probably turn out to be quite the menace on this trip.” He said. “Though I would like to try skiing with you,” he said. “If it really isn’t worth giving up, I guess I should give it some effort.” Effort. Something he wasn’t used to putting to good use. Finally, though, Ruki heard words he thought he’d never hear, and he immediately perked up. ”I can introduce you to some people,” he heard her say. He was now smiling in full force, excited and happy. “That would be so great of you! Thanks!” But then the excitement left him for a moment so he could ponder her statement some more. Was she going to try to pawn him off on someone else? Or was she being completely genuine? He knew he shouldn’t be worrying about such hurtful things, but he didn’t know her very well, despite how much he was finding himself starting to really like the girl. But her mention of her knowing most of the school’s students made him feel a little worthless. He’d been at the school for a long time, and hadn’t managed to get to know that many people. But he wasn’t totally surprised by that statement. The party… the people… she was likely one of the more popular students of the school. He found that thought intriguing, though. After all, he was talking to her and making friendly. As the ski lift came into sight, he had let Adelyn get on first. But only with her gesturing did he notice that they could fit two people. Well, that was handy. Although he now felt a little slow, but he laughed it off and joined Adelyn on the seat. Once comfortable, he looked at her again. “Ah, same here. Definitely gotta have the caffeine.” He laughed at her laugh, joining in. “Although, I agree with you. Sometimes only hot chocolate really cuts it right.” ”Oh, that’s cool. Where have you travelled to in the past? I do some of my own travelling from time to time, but it’s only to Japan to see family. I’d like to take a recreational vacation at some point.” He said, and then he was shocked by how much he had spoken, and so quickly, too. He really was seeing a change in himself. ”I sew, go to concerts, just really hang around. Not much, really. Though I do have a fondness for antiques.” He said, figuring he probably sounded really boring. He didn't know what to say, and he didn’t really know what he could say that would make them seem in any way similar. But here they were, both chatting with one another. And perhaps that was all that mattered. "I'm also into street fashion," he added at the last minute. IT DYED BY BELOVED FILTH----------OOC[ I went a little cheesy here. Muse fail xD][/blockquote]

Adelyn shifted in her skis as she studied Ruki for a few seconds. He seemed pretty genuine as he spoke. This made her smile lightly. He seemed free of the pre-established judgements... maybe they could be friends after all? Even if he did seem more like someone Callie would hang out with, she supposed that she could always make some exceptions. She'd just have to wait and see if he fit in with her friends at all... that would be the deciding factor, she supposed. She made a mental note to text her friends once her fingers warmed up... the sooner they met, maybe the better.
"Awesome," Adelyn beamed as he said that he would like to hear about the trip to 'Lundy.' It was still rather surprising to her that he hadn't already had his share of information from someone else. But, she wasn't about to complain. If there was one thing that Adelyn was fond of, it was being in the spotlight. Even something as basic as this could easily make her day. So, anything Ruki wanted to know, she would probably tell him... with the exception of a few details. Like, for instance, the fact that she'd gotten her current boyfriend there and had somehow managed to date behind her friends' and family's back for the past.... well, six months or so. And now, she wasn't speaking to her best friend because of it. Yeah, that'd be enough to scare him off.
And then came the skiing. Adelyn gave a genuine laugh as she heard him say that he would probably quite the menace on the trip. She highly doubted he was as bad as he was making himself out to be... but, there again, she'd never actually seen him ski. She grinned as he said he'd like to try skiing with her. She was about to say a usual smart-alec remark like 'who wouldn't want to ski with me?' but then she stopped herself. They were getting along fairly well thus far... why ruin it so soon? She needed someone to pal around with for a while. "Yeah, it takes some work... but it's totally worth it. Callie and I learned a long time ago and I haven't regretted it once," Adelyn chipped in with a shrug. Though she was still kind of sceptical about teaching someone, she had to admit that it did feel nice having the upper-hand. Or, at least, knowing more about this than he did. Maybe she'd try to help him a bit instead of pawning him off on someone else. At least, she wouldn't push him off on someone else for a little while. She'd give him a chance.
Ruki seemed instantly happy at the mention of her introducing him to some people. Adelyn raised an eyebrow, slightly amused by this. Maybe he didn't know all that many people around the school? Or, maybe he just wanted to use her to get into some of the more exciting school parties? Studying him for just a second, Adelyn instantly decided that it had to be the former. Ruki really didn't look like a party-person. Looks could be deceiving... but, typically Addie was pretty good at reading people. So, deciding that he just didn't know that many people, Adelyn shrugged. "No biggy. I mean, we are kind of friends now... I think," She stated. Or, at least, acquaintances. But, she wasn't going to say that part out loud. What was the harm in being a little nicer than she normally would have been? Not much.... this time, anyway.
Ruki joined her on the seat and shortly after the lift was moving. Adelyn gripped the handle bar, making it a point as to not look down. Although she was over her fear of the ski lift... and working on her fear of heights, she still knew it was best that she didn't look at the ground. She would probably freak. So, instead, she kept her gaze fixed pointedly on Ruki and nodded as he said that sometimes it was only hot chocolate that was needed. "Agreed. There's nothing like a good cup of hot chocolate," She beamed. When he asked where it was that she had traveled in the past, Addie gave a slight shrug. "Most of the states, North America and quite a bit of Europe. I've never been to Japan, though. It sounds like a cool place to go," She admitted, softly. She was actually surprised to hear that he had family in Japan. She wasn't sure why... but, it did surprise her none-the-less.
And, once more she was surprised to hear that he sewed. Actually, she was impressed. Most boys would never admit to it and many considered it to be a 'girly' pass-time. But, she for one had no idea how to sew... so, it was actually rather admirable. "That's... interesting. I mean, I don't care about antiques... at all. But, concerts are fun! And, it's rather admirable that you can sew." She grinned. She raised an eyebrow at the mention of street fashion, however. "Street fashion?" She questioned, rather unsure as to what he meant by that. She loved fashion... but she was pretty sure they were two different types.
