How about Ruki and Brandon used to be friends, but do to Ruki's stoic and rather aloof attitude at that time, he thought that Ruki didn't really care. But how about they slowly start becoming friends again, because Ruki's changing and becoming more open and talkative. He could be a good support for Brandon.

Well she's a Sophomore and he's a senior. Maybe he thinks of her as the 'little' sister type and tries to protect her. It looks like she's sixteen? and he's only seventeen so they could be freinds.. He's just rather protective of her?
