Erik was never one for the holidays to begin with. He kind of just spent most of his time with his friends or just taking up room in their living room. Erik use to take for granite that he had a large family. That was until about a month ago when his father and littlest sister were murdered. He never quite got over it. He feels like he is in an eternal slump and not sure what to do with himself. And now that he had to move all the way to the other side of the country and does not really know anyone doesn’t help either.
It’s not like he appreciates what his mother’s sister’s family has done for them. He does. It is just a little much for him. Not to mention he is a city folk who is now living on a farm. Yes it does have its advantages such as giving him more room to work on his bike and his car he is trying to fix up but that is just about his only good view of the place. Everyone here seems so calm and not to mention they get up really early to feed the horses and such but it seems like too much work. It’s not like they ever get a break from feeding the horses and such.
Since it was Christmas morning and it was much earlier then he planned on getting up he decided to do his part for the family, I guess you could say, today. He made his way silently down the stairs and out the door being sure not to wake anyone up. Then he made his way over to the barn.
He started by filling all of the horses buckets with fresh water and food, just like he seen Danni always doing. Then he took each horse one by one and started mucking their stalls with a shovel and a wheelbarrow he found out back. Once he had finished mucking out each and every stall placing a fresh thing of sawdust on the floor and even putting a thing of hay in each stall for the horses. He took Bently by his lead rope and placed him back into his stall. “Not bad now is it Bently. Not bad at all.” He whispered to the Thoroughbred named Bently. Petting the horse noise.
