It was roughly three in the morning when Joey looked at his alarm clock. Why was he up so early? It was his second week of his new school. And he was up at three? He had about two and a half hour of sleep, but he couldn't. He couldn't get back to sleep. So he decided to screw it and take a run. Joey crawled out of bed and walked towards his closet. He pulled on some sweatpants and a sweatshirt. He headed out the door.
Joey looked at his watch, it was around five thirty now. He had taken a nice run in cold weather. It really woken him up, but he now needed to get home before his parents wake up. He quickly rushed down the street and into the house, relief to see that they were still asleep. He took a hot shower and got ready for school.
He grabbed his keys and headed out the door. His smashed up truck was no good at the moment, just sitting at the end of the driveway. Joey decided to take his mom's second car, a nice car, but she never drove it. He quickly hopped into the sports car and rushed down to school.
Thirty minutes later; He arrived into the school's empty parking lot. Joe had 'bout thirty more minutes until school started, but he had some homework to do. He walked up to a bench near the school's entrances, and starting working. [bleeeeh. -.-]

It was only a quater till four in the morning, and yet June was wide awake, staring at her ceiling. Friday, her toy terrier, had been whining most of the night and he had finally managed to wake her up. She had already taken him outside three times, and had managed to get him to go to sleep nearly fifteen minutes ago... but for some reason she hadn't been able to fall back asleep herself. Her alarm wasn't due to go off until a quater after five... and even then she usually hit the 'sleep' button two or three more times. She wasn't sure why she was still awake... but for some reason she was. It didn't look like sleep was going to come back to her, either, so June decided to get out of bed and just get ready for school early.
It took her just over an hour to get ready. And now, about five'o'clock, she was sitting on the counter, eating a banana and leafing through the paper mindlessly. Her dad would be getting up fairly soon to go to get ready for work, and her grandmother probably wouldn't be up until six thirty or so. Just in time to usually kiss her goodbye for school. So, the house was fairly quiet. Even Friday was sleeping now, and her cat, Madagascar, was no where to be found either. By the time the clock reached five thirty, June was rather bored with the paper and decided that she'd just take her time peddling to school. She'd still arrive early, no doubt, but it was better than hanging out in a quite apartment reading the newspaper. She quickly wrote a note to her dad, explaining that she'd already left for school. Then, grabbing a water bottle out of the fridge, and picking her backpack up, June headed for the door. She slid her water bottle into the basket of her bike where her sketchbook already lay from the night before, and then pushed it out to the elevator, ready to start for school.
Sure enough, even if she had taken her time peddling, and had even stopped by the general store next to her apartment building to buy herself a pack of skittles, June arrived at school with about thirty minutes to spare. The only car within the Eastside High parking lot was a sports car, she noticed. Probably one of the popular kids' cars, she figured with a slight eye roll. She peddled over to the bike rack and then slid off her bike, chaining the front tire there in a hurry. Then, she took her sketchbook, water bottle, and pack of skittles out of the basket and started for the school. She was almost there when she spotting a rather familiar figure on the bench closest to the school and froze. Joey Cartell. He was here? A feeling of shock suddenly struck her and June was tempted to go back toward her bike and just wait to go into the school. But, for some reason, she didn't move. Instead, she just studied the boy for a few seconds unsure of what to do. She hadn't talked to him in ages... and... she hadn't planned on it. What would she even say? Maybe he wouldn't notice her and she could just sneak on by? Or, maybe she would just turn around? June wasn't sure what to do, so for the time being she just stared at him, in amazement. What was he doing here so early out of all the people in this school?

Joey stretched on the bench and spread out his homework. He was supposed to get this done the night before, but he totally forgot about it until on the way here. He was very relieved when he found out that he had thirty minutes till school started and twenty minutes until people got here. Quiet time to actually work unlike his house. His mom was always yelling or watching tv very loud. He really needed a new place to relax. He sighed and started working on his homework.
After he finished six problems he heard a noise. Metal clinking. Joey quickly snapped his head up to find a small figure near the back rack. His medium eyesight couldn't point out who it was. But once he squinted he realized who it was. June Madison. He hadn't seen her or talked to her for a long time. Joey waved slightly with a small smile on his shocked face. [bleeeeh. -.-]

June was just about to turn back when she suddenly realized that Joey was looking at her. And waving. She bit her lip, running through her choices once more. The butterflies that were now filling her stomach were totally unlike her. What was she going to say? She couldn't just leave, that would be rude. Besides... he was waving. June slowly raised a hand, returning his wave with one of her own. She'd been in a play once... that involved acting and stage fright skills. Maybe she could use that to her advantage now? Taking a quick drink of her water, June ran her fingers through her hair. Might as well give it a shot...
Swallowing hard, still rather shocked, June started on down the sidewalk toward Joey. She made her to stop herself within a yard of him. It was only then that she took notice to how cute he still seemed to be. The butterflies seemed to double as she looked at him, so she quickly turned her attention to the items in her hands. A sketchbook, some skittles, a pencil... and her water. Her backpack was over her shoulder, and she fidgeted with it slightly, avoiding eye contact. ”'Morning, Joey,” Her voice was fairly level. Maybe it wouldn't be so hard to talk to him? As long as she avoided eye contact, anyhow.”I.... er... how are... you?” It was only the fact that she had just noticed how tight she had twisted her backpack strap around her finger just then, that stopped her from freaking out about how lame she sounded. She quickly freed her finger and then gave a small smile, looking past Joey and hoping he wouldn't notice.
