hair: the blond hair that is on his head is almost always messed up or out of place. it is usually never combed or taken care well. if you pay close enough attention you may notice some split ends.
distinguishing features: one of the most noticeable features is the tattoo that trails on his right arm. the colors are striking enough to notice.
tattoos and piercings: his ears are pierced and that is all. his tattoo is on his right arm. it not seen a lot due to area being easily covered.
personal style: his style is what you would expect. baggy clothing, notable brands, sneakers, it's mostly casual wear rather than anything else. it's a bit skater, but he is a mix of everything. he never stays in one simple style.
appearance: starting from his natural features he's tall and pretty average in body type. he's not a muscle builder or lacking, he's just somewhere in the middle. of course, being this big and only sixteen he's been on occasion mistaken for being older. he's just grown up for his age. facial hair is blond so it's there, hidden. however, kai has a boyish charm especially in his face. his wispy blond hair is in his face even if it's just a few strands or plain out of place. he's dyed it a few times before just giving up and going back to his original blond hair. it's damaged. kai doesn't care. the first thing most people will notice is the hair since it's usually in his face. underneath the hair is a pair of oval shaped blue eyes. a bit dark and deary in a way. the nose is a slightly pointed, right in the middle of his head. skin, tanned due to staying in the sun and some acne just because he's a teenager.
kai is confident with how he looks, there being times when he falters, and he is fine with how he dresses. he's the guy that takes pride in what he wears or plans how he dresses. if he's just too lazy to go to his closet he uses the most typical method that any guy would use. pick a piece of clothing from a pile, sniff, then wear if it seems fine. whatever on his person he just thrown on for the heck of it. even though he likes to get to places earlier he doesn't take too much time getting dressed. the only exception to his way of dressing is when there is something important. weddings, funerals, formal birthday parties, possibly prom, anything similar to the listed above is the dodged. the one thing that can't be avoided is the hats. kai's signature is hats. he wears them, sometimes even sleeping with them on. not wearing them all the time, but they are what he usually wears if he can or can find it in his room. the earrings and tattoo are also equally on him for more than one reason.

overall personality: kai is an active guy. he loves being out and about, doing what he loves to do. he moves around new york city often and without a doubt doesn't stay in one place at a time. one of the places that he does hang around the most is the beach. he just loves doing something other than staying home. he enjoys playing sports or just walking around the city. he'll have fun anywhere with the people that he chooses to be close with. it's hard to be close with kai though. the people he chooses are people that he's either known for very long or understand what he has gone through. their are few that can get close to him. sometimes he just pushes people way thinking it was for the best. for that reason, most of his relationships are him breaking up with them.
he's a jokey person as well as an honest too. jokes of all kinds he just laughs his head off. the office is his all time favorite show. also, kai doesn't take things too seriously. he thinks of stuff as a joke or you just kidding him. he can be serious when he can sense it, but sensing it is hard for kai to begin with. he wouldn't know and if you seriously tell him something he needs the obvious signs. he's a bit dumb in this aspect. you'd think that he'd realize something like that. even so, he is a really sincere person. he'll tell his opinion as it is if it's going to hurt you or not. he hates to sugar coat something. he just says it like it is to him. his reply will not be a made-up comment just to please someone or get out of trouble. with friends, family, or girlfriends you ask and you'll get something out of him. this something that he doesn't joke about.

history: when rosaline and hale met it was just love at first sight. it didn't take long before the twenty-four and twenty-five year old people had gotten married. they had both finished college and were looking for jobs in new york. it was hard considering that their families couldn't help very much due to financial reasons. they found a way to work everything out, starting off with renting an apartment. before long, hale had become a professor at berkley university while rosaline had taken the job as nurse at a hospital. the newlyweds were happy as well as busy. rosaline would work night shifts so it was easy to see hale since he worked in the morning. maybe just for a little while, that was it. things were normal. fights broke out for petty reasons and some more serious. solutions were made or the problems were forgotten. after a couple of years, they had there first child, melena. the pride and joy of the family.
kai was born only a year afterward. melena and kai were enemies from the moment that there mother held the both of them. they cried and fought in their own infant ways. for the most part of kai's childhood he competed with melena for everything. from eating the most cookies to running the fastest, they wanted to best each other. kai didn't want to be the loser so it pushed himself to the point where he was ready for his legs to break off. school was the one that he failed at the most. he just didn't have good study habits. his childhood wasn't full of competition though. he was outside in the park or playing with the neighborhood kids. he didn't like staying inside the house. at a young age, his father taught him how to surf. kai didn't enjoy the sport to begin with. he swallowed so much water that he was familiar with the taste. after months of practicing and his father's laughing, he became decent. as a kid, he continued to go the beach with his father to try over and over again. his father was his idol, he loved him so dearly.
the family was close. but, his father and mother were having problems. rosaline was always out of the house and making excuses about having too do overtime. hale was fine with that, he admired his wife's strength. kai was now fifteen. he was suspicious about his mother leaving so often. it was actually melena who brought it up when the two of them walked home from school. he was sure that something was up. so he and his sister devised a plan to sneak out of the house when their mother was working overtime. they were able to successfully able to convince their dad that they just wanted to see their mother. when they arrived at the hospital they witnessed rosaline in the middle of an affair with one of the doctors. the siblings reported it to their father. hale denied it and grounded the two of them. eventually, hale saw it for himself and he decided to divorce his wife. he was heartbroken. from that point on, kain harvested a hatred for his mother. he hurt the person he idolized so much. only fifteen, he was shocked, mad, and sad. he was a mess knowing that his mother had the affair.
his years as a teenager weren't bad. he met more people that shared his interests as he did. he met some friends, lost some. he met some girls, got together or hooked up, then it was either stay friends or just out of the picture. most of the time, he was out surfing. his father didn't have time to take him so it was him and his gang. he went through competitions. he won some and lost, mostly placing. he and his sister was better. they talked and were relatively close ever since the mother incident. it brought them closer. she sometimes helped him out with school. he was still struggling. kai would always go hang out rather than study or do schoolwork. he was up and down. if he wanted to do his work he would, but mostly he didn't want to. the biggest problem though was his mother and her new family. the new divorce was hard on everyone. kai was furious that his mother had a new life with the doctor. they have a child. kai can't stand to stay with her on the weekends. it just hurts to see what she has now with someone new.

it was early in the morning. the sun hadn't risen up very high in the sky and there was silence that proved that everyone in the household was sound asleep. the fourteen year old rubbed her eyes as she sat upright in her bed. afterward, she looked around her room wondering what happened to her alarm clock. the machine would have rung about now. she knew by habit of waking up the beeping noise at an appropriate time. everything in her room was in place. it was gone, well, for now. she shrugged and got off her bed. the clock must have been knocked off the nightstand due to the flailing of her arms when she slept. throwing away the worry, she quickly headed to the bathroom, dressing and doing the daily preparation for a school day. in a few minutes, she exited, making way downstairs. she felt a rush to leave home for no apparent reason. it was just sort of urge even if it meant that she would stand in the cold for awhile.
violet peered to the first floor from the steps. empty. it looked like everyone was out cold. slowly, she made her way over to the kitchen. her footsteps grew louder as soon as the carpet disappeared as it was replaced by wood. the counter tops were cleared. the only place to look was the island that had her bag and some money for whatever purposes that violet felt. she sighed. her mother must have been so happy when her father had come home that she fixed everything up. she didn't mind her mother's kindness to get her stuff ready, but she wished that she hadn't cleaned the kitchen. every piece of food she would have enjoyed would be put somewhere where violet couldn't find then. she inched closer to the island while inspecting her surroundings. it was clean and surely organized. as soon as she made it, her hands grasped the items on the island and left the house with her bag on her left shoulder and cash in her pocket.
the distance from her house to the school wasn't very far. it was about a mile. if you walked quick enough you could make it to the school you could get there in fifteen minutes time. violet looked at the pavement as she paced towards the academy. she didn't want to stay at her dorm since it was so different. her roommates probably thought that she was a loser for not being able to stay. even violet had to admit that she was a bit of a wuss. besides, that she knew that her dad would be home so it would make a perfect excuse. it wasn't an excuse, but she needed an answer for their question. the breeze was colder than it was. in her sight she could make out the school. her thoughts must have passed enough time. seeing that it was rather close by violet ran. her bag swung on her shoulder wildly as she jolted. suddenly, she came to a halt. she was here. right in the courtyard. not that many students were here. violet began to walk to an open table tucked under some trees. her legs ached slightly. she hadn't had a good run in some time. she sat hoping to gain some strength back.
